Gong Enrich uses Gong credits when it retrieves contact data from external data partners. For a general overview of Gong credits, see About Gong credits.
When Enrich consumes credits
A Gong credit is consumed when a data partner successfully returns an email address or phone number for a contact. Credit consumption is tied to successful data retrieval, not to the enrichment request itself.
Situations that do not consume credits:
A data partner finds no data for the contact
A data partner is skipped in the waterfall because an earlier partner already returned a result
The enrichment request fails due to a connection or system error
The contact fails verification before any data partner is queried. Learn more about How Enrich is triggered.
Email validation and credits
Returned email addresses are validated before being stored in Gong. If an email fails validation, it is discarded and Gong tries the next data partner in the waterfall.
A credit is still charged when an email fails validation, because the data partner successfully returned data. The credit charge is tied to the data partner returning a result, not to the email passing validation.
How BYOK connections affect credits
If you connect a data partner using your company's existing account with that provider (a "bring your own key" or BYOK connection), results from that partner do not consume Gong credits. Your company is billed directly by the data partner under your existing agreement with them.
Partners connected through Gong rather than via BYOK consume Gong credits when they return data.
You can use a mix of BYOK and Gong-provided connections in the same waterfall. Credits are consumed only for results from Gong-provided partners.
Email and phone credit behavior
Credits are consumed per data type returned. If a team member requests both email and phone, each may be charged if both return results. Using the dropdown to request only one limits the charge to that type.
Account enrichment and credits
When a contact is enriched, the associated account is also enriched automatically. Account enrichment does not consume Gong credits.
This applies to both manual and flow ruleset enrichment. Account data is populated in Gong when data is available; if a field has no matching data from the enrichment, it remains empty.
What happens when there is no result
When all data partners in the waterfall return no data for the requested field, no credits are consumed. The team member sees a "no data found" message for that field.
What happens when enrichment cannot run
If credits are unavailable when enrichment is attempted, the outcome depends on how enrichment was triggered.
Manual enrichment: When your company has no Gong credits, manual enrichment is not available.
Flow ruleset enrichment: When a flow ruleset attempts enrichment and credits are unavailable, the flow continues without enriching the contact.
Manage credit usage
You can set monthly credit limits for individual team members to govern how much of the company credit pool any one person can consume through manual enrichment actions. Features that run automatically across the company, such as flow rulesets enrichment, are not counted against individual limits. Learn more about Credit profiles.
Frequently asked questions
Are credits consumed when Enrich runs automatically through a flow?
The same credit rules apply regardless of whether enrichment is triggered manually or automatically through a flow: credits are consumed when a data partner successfully returns data, and not charged for lookups that return no result. BYOK connections do not consume credits regardless of how enrichment is triggered. Account enrichment does not consume credits in either case.
What happens when your company runs out of credits?
When your company's credit balance reaches zero, contact email and phone enrichment from data partners stops. Account enrichment is not affected, as it does not consume credits. For manual enrichment, team members will see a message directing them to obtain credits. For flow ruleset enrichment, flows continue without enriching contacts. To add credits, contact your Gong account team.
How do I monitor Enrich credit usage?
Credit usage by feature, including Enrich, is available on the Gong credits page in Admin center. Go to Admin center, select Settings, and open Reports, then Gong credits. The Credit usage tab shows consumption broken down by feature. Learn more about Managing credit usage.
