Configure Enrich

Who can use this: Tech admin

Available on: Any Gong plan

Set up Gong Enrich so your team can retrieve missing, outdated, or incorrect contact data from external data partners without leaving Gong.

Step 1: Configure enrichment settings

Activate Enrich and configure its settings from the Enrichment controls tab on the Data Enrichment page.

Note:

Once you enable Enrich, it cannot be disabled. You can remove permissions for manual and automatic enrichment.

To configure enrichment settings:

  1. From the left sidebar, click Admin center.

  2. In the Settings tab, click Data enrichment in the Enrich card.

  3. In the Enrichment controls tab, click the Opt in to activate Enrich toggle to enable it.

  4. Click the Manual contact enrichment toggle to enable it. This is a company-level setting: when enabled, manual enrichment is available for your company.

  5. Click the Engage flows toggle to enable it. This enables automatic contact enrichment for Engage flows company wide. When a flow ruleset is configured to allow it, contacts with missing or incorrect data are enriched automatically when they enter the flow.

  6. Under exclusion settings, select which contacts to exclude from enrichment:

    • Exclude people located in the European Union (EU)

    • Exclude people in California

To restrict which team members can manually enrich contacts, see Step 5: Set Enrich permissions. You can configure this now or return to it after completing the remaining steps.

Step 2: Connect data partners

Data partners are the external providers Gong queries to retrieve contact data. You need to connect at least one data partner to enrich contacts. Gong Enrich supports: LeadIQ, Wiza, RocketReach, Lusha, ZoomInfo, and Findymail.

Data partners can be connected as Gong-provided connections, which consume Gong credits when they return data. If you have your own API key with a provider, you can use it instead (bring your own key, or BYOK). BYOK connections do not consume Gong credits.

When you add a data partner, it is available for both email and phone enrichment. You configure the waterfall order for each independently in the next step.

Note:

ZoomInfo uses an admin login rather than an API key. During setup, sign in with your ZoomInfo admin credentials when prompted.

To connect a data partner:

  1. On the Data Enrichment page, click the Data partners tab.

  2. Go to the Email address enrichment setup or Phone number enrichment setup section and click + Add data partner, then select the data partner you want to connect.

  3. Follow the on-screen steps to connect. The process varies by data partner. Once connected, the data partner appears in the list.

  4. Repeat for each data partner you want to add.

  5. (Optional) To use your own API key (BYOK): hover over the data partner row, click the key icon that appears, enter your API key, and click Save.

  6. Click Define dialer outcomes in the top right of the Phone number enrichment setup section and set whether each outcome is positive or negative. This applies across all data partners for calls.

Step 3: Set the waterfall order

In the Data partners tab, drag data partners within each section to set the waterfall order. Email address and phone number have independent waterfalls, so you can use a different priority order for each.

Step 4: Configure CRM field mapping

Map enriched fields to your CRM so that when Enrich retrieves data, it automatically writes the results to the right CRM records. Enrich fields are always stored in Gong's data model regardless of whether a CRM mapping exists. Mappings control whether Gong also writes that data to your CRM.

To map an Enrich field to your CRM:

  1. On the Data Enrichment page, click the CRM field mapping tab.

  2. Click the row for the Enrich field you want to map. A panel opens.

  3. In the panel, select the Account, Contact, or Lead tab, then select the CRM field to map to.

  4. Select or deselect the Overwrite CRM value checkbox. When overwrite is disabled, Gong writes the Enrich value to an empty CRM field but does not replace an existing value.

  5. Click Save mapping.

Repeat for each field you want to map. Removing a mapping does not delete data already written to your CRM. It only stops future writes for that field.

Step 5: Set Enrich permissions

You can control which team members can manually enrich contacts via permission profiles. Contacts can still be enriched through a flow ruleset even if the team member does not have this permission. The permission is enabled by default, so all team members can use manual enrichment unless you restrict it.

To restrict Enrich access for a permission profile:

  1. From the left sidebar, click Admin center.

  2. In the Settings tab, under People, click Permission profiles.

  3. Select the permission profile you want to update.

  4. In the Enrich section, deselect Contact details and account information.

  5. Click Save.

Repeat for each permission profile you want to restrict.

Step 6: Test your setup

Confirm that the configuration works end to end before rolling out Enrich to your team.

To test your Enrich setup:

  1. Go to a contact in Gong who has a missing or outdated email address or phone number.

  2. Click Enrich contact on the contact's panel.

  3. Wait for the enrichment to complete and confirm the result is what you expect. Enrichment runs in the background. You can continue working in Gong while it completes.

Note:

Running a test enrichment consumes Gong credits.

If no data is returned, check that your data partner connection is active and that the ordering for the relevant data type includes at least one connected partner.

Frequently asked questions

Does Enrich require Gong Engage?

No. You can enable and use Enrich without Engage.

Can I add or change data partners after the initial setup?

Yes. Return to the Data partners tab on the Data Enrichment page at any time to add, remove, or reorder data partners for email or phone.

What if no data partner has data for a contact?

If all data partners return no result, the team member sees a "no data found" message for that field. No Gong credits are charged for lookups that return no result.

Does CRM field mapping require a CRM integration?

Yes. CRM field mapping requires an active CRM connection in Gong to write enriched data back to your CRM. Enrichment itself does not require a CRM. Enriched data is stored in Gong regardless. CRM mapping is recommended for keeping your CRM records up to date.
