Who can use this: Any team member

Ideal for: Manager of managers

Required permissions: Pages: Coaching and Access to coaching stats.

See how managers are coaching their direct-report teams across a management hierarchy. Use it to compare activity, spot coaching gaps, and export data for further analysis.

View your Coaching metrics

Compare manager coaching activity side by side, with each row showing one manager. Green and red arrows show the change from the previous period. The data doesn't include coaching done with people who aren't on the manager's team.

To view your Coaching metrics:

  1. From the left sidebar, click Coaching, and select Coaching metrics.

  2. The columns cover six types of coaching activity measured over the selected time period:

    • Calls listened: Calls where the manager listened to a direct report’s call, either live or by playing the recording. Each call is counted once, even if the manager listened to it multiple times. A call can also be counted under Calls attended if the manager participated in it live.

    • Calls attended: Calls the manager participated in live alongside a direct report.

    • Calls with feedback: Calls where the manager's activity met the criteria for qualifying feedback: a comment, scorecard, reply, or offline feedback mark. This counts calls with feedback, not the number of times feedback was given on the same call. Learn more about what counts as feedback.

    • Calls with comments: Calls where the manager left at least one comment, whether or not the comment counted as feedback.

    • Calls with scorecards: Calls where the manager submitted a scorecard for a direct report.

    • Manually gave feedback: Calls the manager marked as feedback given to log coaching that happened outside Gong.

Note:

The selected time period reflects when the coaching activity took place, not when the call was recorded. A manager who listens to a call three months after it was recorded is counted in the period when they listened, not when the call happened.

Frequently asked questions

The numbers in Coaching metrics don't match what I see in Coaching inbox. Why?

Coaching inbox and Coaching metrics use different calculation methods. Coaching inbox counts unique calls where coaching activity occurred. Coaching metrics separates listened and attended activity and may count the same call in both columns.

Does an automatically scored call count toward a manager's Coaching metrics numbers?

No. Automatically scored calls record that a scorecard was applied, but they don't count as active manager coaching in Coaching metrics. Coaching metrics is designed to reflect deliberate manager actions: listening, attending, commenting, scoring, and giving feedback.

A manager's coaching activity isn't showing up. Why?

Check the selected time period and filters, as the activity may fall outside the current view. If activity is consistently missing, check that the manager's hierarchy is set up correctly in Admin center. Allow up to 24 hours for the data to update. Learn more about troubleshooting missing coaching activity.

How do I use Coaching metrics to coach my managers?

Use the numbers to start a coaching conversation with each manager:

  • Talk to each manager and understand why their numbers are high or low. Then decide whether they need to change how they coach or how they log coaching.

  • Check whether a manager attends too many calls or doesn't listen to enough, and help them sharpen the insights they share with their teams.

  • Remind managers of the different ways to track their coaching: leaving comments, scoring calls, or marking offline feedback.

  • Help managers become better coaches by focusing their coaching on common themes, such as the ideal pitch, how to give a demo, and how to answer difficult questions.
