Leave a comment on a recorded call to give feedback, reply when someone tags you, or log coaching you gave outside Gong. Whether a comment counts as feedback depends on its visibility, your reporting relationship with the person, and whether they requested feedback. Learn more about what counts as feedback.
Add a comment
Add a comment to flag a coaching moment, give feedback on a specific exchange, or tag someone to draw their attention to the call. You need access to the call to add a comment.
To add a comment:
Open the call, then open the Comments section in the panel on the right side of the page.
Click the comment field and type your comment.
(Optional) Adjust the comment using the following options:
Tag someone: Type @ and select their name. If you are a rep tagging your direct manager, this can count as a feedback request. If you are a manager tagging a direct report, the comment may count as feedback given depending on who else attended the call. You can tag up to 50 people in a single comment.
Add a hashtag: Type # and enter a keyword to tag the call so it can be found by that term later.
Change visibility: Use the visibility control above the comment field. Comments are public by default. Select Specific people to limit visibility, or Only me to make the comment private. Visibility affects whether the comment counts as feedback: A private comment from a manager on a rep's call always counts.
Click Post.
Note:
If you are a manager and want a comment to count as feedback given, tag your direct report in the comment. Learn more about what counts as feedback.
To add an emoji reaction to a comment or reply:
Hover over the comment and click the emoji icon.
Reply to a comment
When a direct report tags you in a comment, your reply counts as feedback given. If other Gong users attended the call, your reply counts only if the direct report formally requested feedback or you make the comment private. You can reply from the call page or Slack.
Requests to give feedback appear in the Collaboration section on your home page, on the call page, and, if you are a direct manager, in Coaching inbox.
To reply from the call page:
Open the call from your email notification, from the Collaboration section on your home page, or by navigating to the call directly.
Tip: In the call summary email, click the comment you were tagged in to go straight to it.Click Reply on the comment.
Type your reply and click Post.
To reply in Slack:
Find the Gong comment notification in your Slack channel or direct message.
Reply in the thread.
Text replies, edits, and deletions sync back to Gong automatically.
Note:
Slack emoji reactions and media files do not sync to Gong. Only text replies sync.
Use the Gong hashtag format when tagging calls in Slack. Slack's autocomplete does not produce the correct syntax.
Log offline feedback
If you coached a team member in a 1:1, over the phone, or in person, mark the call in Gong so the coaching counts as feedback in Coaching metrics. This option is available on Enable Essentials and Enable. The feedback is visible to you, your manager, and sales enablement.
To log offline feedback:
Open the call you want to mark.
Hover over the right side of the page and click Feedback.
Click Mark it so it counts.
Note:
The count updates in Coaching inbox once Gong's daily data processing runs. Allow up to 24 hours after marking for it to appear.
Frequently asked questions
Can I add a comment to a specific moment in the transcript?
Yes. In the transcript, select the text you want to comment on. A comment icon appears. Click it to open the comment field with the timestamp already set to that moment.
Why does my comment show 0:00 as the timestamp?
If the call is not playing when you add a comment, Gong timestamps it 0:00. To set a different time, play the call to that moment before you add the comment, or select text in the transcript and click the comment icon.
How do I find comments that were left on my calls?
On your home page, in the Collaboration section, click Received. You can also open any call and check the Comments section directly. In the Comments section, click the timestamp on a comment to play that part of the call.
