Available on: Any Gong plan
Connect Gong to Zoom to record your team's Zoom calls and bring them into Gong, where they sit alongside your other Gong activities. Gong records those calls one of two ways, and the method you choose affects recording quality, what participants see during the call, and which Gong features work on the call afterwards.
You also choose how wide the connection goes: your whole company at once, or specific team members who each request their own connection. Learn more about Set up native Zoom recording.
Recording options
The two recording methods are mutually exclusive, so a call is recorded one way or the other. Native Zoom recording is the recommended method.
Native Zoom recording: Zoom records the call into your company's Zoom cloud, and Gong retrieves the recording once Zoom has it ready. Nothing joins the meeting to record it.
Recording with the Gong recorder: The Gong recorder joins the meeting as a participant and records the call from there. Team members can listen to these calls while they are still happening.
What you need in Zoom
Native Zoom recording depends on your company's Zoom plan, on each recorded team member holding a paid Zoom seat, and on the Zoom admin who connects Gong holding the right Zoom role permissions.
Gong integrates with Zoom's Pro, Business, and Enterprise plans. The Basic (free) plan is not supported.
ZoomGov is not supported.
Every team member you want recorded natively needs a paid Zoom seat. A team member on a free Zoom seat is recorded by the Gong recorder instead.
The Zoom admin who connects Gong needs specific Zoom role permissions and scopes. Learn more about Zoom settings required for native recording.
Note:
Zoom Pro accounts have two extra considerations. Gong cannot identify speakers whose names use non-Latin characters, and Pro accounts need specific cloud recording layout settings before Gong can use the recording. Learn more about Zoom settings required for native recording.
What native Zoom recording gives you
Recording in Zoom rather than through a participant changes what people see during the call and what Gong can do with the call afterwards.
Recording quality is better, because Zoom captures the call directly rather than through a meeting participant.
No extra participant joins the meeting.
The host can start, stop, and pause the recording during the call, which helps when they share their screen or discuss sensitive information.
Zoom's recording prompt plays privately to each participant, so each person hears it once as they join.
Zoom shows its own on-screen recording notification, and you can use Zoom's consent options.
Public Zoom chat messages sent while recording was on come into Gong with the call. Learn more about seeing the Zoom chat.
Team members can take notes during the meeting with the Gong app for Zoom. The notes are timestamped and shown on the call page. Learn more about using the Gong app for Zoom.
What native Zoom recording cannot do
Three things the Gong recorder handles are not available when Zoom records the call.
Live listening: Team members cannot listen to a call while it is still happening.
Audio-only recording: Native Zoom recording does not produce an audio-only recording.
Breakout rooms: Conversations in Zoom breakout rooms are not recorded. The Gong recorder can be assigned to a breakout room and record there.
Note:
Natively recorded calls can take longer to appear in Gong, because Gong waits until the recording is ready to retrieve in Zoom.
Frequently asked questions
Does the Gong recorder still join calls?
Yes, on calls where native Zoom recording cannot be used. The Gong recorder joins the meeting when:
The meeting host does not have a paid Zoom seat, is not a recorded team member in Gong, or is not set up for cloud recording in Zoom.
Someone outside your company schedules the meeting using their own Zoom link.
The meeting uses a web conferencing provider other than Zoom.
Gong cannot reach Zoom.
Turn on the Gong audio prompt in your consent profile so these calls still capture recording consent. Learn more about enabling the audio prompt.
Does this record every Zoom call in our company?
No. Your recording rules and privacy settings in Gong decide which meetings are recorded and brought in. Gong starts Zoom recording and retrieves recordings according to those rules, the same way it does when the Gong recorder records the call. Learn more about defining your recording settings.
Does native Zoom recording use our Zoom storage?
Yes. The recording is made in your company's Zoom cloud, so it uses your Zoom storage until Gong retrieves it. Gong can delete each recording from Zoom once it has been retrieved. Learn more about managing Zoom recording storage and deletion.
Are Zoom webinars recorded?
No. Zoom webinars are not recorded with native Zoom recording. If your team records webinars today, those recordings stop when you move to native Zoom recording.
Can we still use the Gong consent page?
Yes, the Gong consent page and native Zoom recording work together. Participants pass the Gong consent page, and then hear Zoom's audio prompt and see Zoom's recording disclaimer as they join the meeting.
Gong links the consent page to your team's Zoom meetings in two ways. Personal meeting links, also called static links, are your team members' Zoom personal meeting rooms, which Gong links to their consent page automatically. Dynamic links are unique Zoom links that Gong generates for each meeting scheduled with the Gong add-in for Google Calendar or Outlook.
If a participant opts out of recording, the Zoom recording stops and participants are notified. Learn more about recording consent.
Is Zoom a processor of our data?
Yes. Zoom hosts and manages the conversations held in Zoom, whichever recording method you use. Gong's role does not change, and Gong does not hand your customer data to Zoom.
