About the Gong extension

Who can use this: Any team member

Available on: Gong Engage

Ideal for: Sales rep, Sales manager

The Gong Extension connects Engage to three places: your Gmail inbox, your Outlook inbox, and your CRM. From an email or contact record, you can work through to-dos, send tracked emails, apply templates, and add people to flows.

Work in Gmail

When you open an email in Gmail, Gong Extension shows you which people in the thread are CRM contacts and whether they’ve engaged with your recent emails. From the contact panel, you can complete email to-dos, start a call, and get AI-generated answers about the contact. In the compose window, you can insert templates and blocks and rephrase your draft. Everything syncs back to Gong automatically, without leaving your inbox.

Track email engagement

Every email you send to a CRM contact from Gmail is tracked automatically. A counter next to each email in your inbox shows opens and link clicks as they happen, so you can see which messages landed and follow up at the right moment. Tracking works for HTML emails sent to contacts in your connected CRM.

Work in your CRM

On any contact or account page in Salesforce, Dynamics, or HubSpot, Gong Extension brings up a panel showing Gong activity, flow status, and recent interaction history. You can update CRM fields, start an email or call, and use Ask anything to get AI answers based on your conversations with that contact.

Add people to a flow from your CRM

From any supported contact record, you can add someone to an Engage flow. From a list view or report, you can select up to 2,000 contacts and add them all at once, turning a CRM list into an active outreach sequence without leaving the page.

Work in Outlook

If your team uses Outlook rather than Gmail, the Gong Extension Outlook add-in brings the same Engage features into your inbox. Templates, blocks, rephrase, contact context, and to-dos are all available from a side panel alongside your emails. For email tracking to work in Outlook, the add-in needs to be deployed by an admin for your whole company.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need both the Chrome extension and the Outlook add-in?

Only if your team works across both Gmail and Outlook. The two are independent, meaning you can install one, both, or neither depending on what you use. If your team uses Outlook, the add-in gives you the same Engage features there.

What is the difference between Gong Extension and Gong for Outlook?

Gong Extension is for teams with a Gong Engage license and includes full Engage functionality in Outlook. Gong for Outlook is for teams without Engage. It provides meeting link automation but not Engage features. If you have Engage, use Gong Extension. See Install Gong Extension Outlook add-in for a full comparison.

Does Gong Extension work with Classic Outlook?

No. The Outlook add-in requires New Outlook. Classic Outlook is not supported. The Chrome extension works independently of Outlook and is not affected by this requirement.
