Prev Next

Who can use this: Any team member

Available on: Gong Engage

Ideal for: Sales rep, Sales manager

Install the Gong Extension in Chrome, then sign in to Gong and allow the Chrome permissions it needs. If you're an admin setting it up for your whole team, see the force-install note in Step 1.

Before you begin

Before installing, make sure you have the following in place.

  • You are signed in to Gong.

  • Email import is enabled in My settings under Emails.

  • The Gmail account you use matches the primary email address in your Gong profile. The extension only works for the account you use to sign in to Gong.

Note:

The extension does not support Salesforce Classic.

Install and activate the extension

Step 1: Add the extension to Chrome

Install the extension from the Chrome Web Store.

To add the extension:

  1. Go to the Gong Extension page in the Chrome Web Store.

  2. Click Add to Chrome.

  3. When Chrome asks to confirm, click Add extension.

Note:

If your company has a managed Chrome environment, your admin can force-install the extension for everyone instead. To do this, follow the Google Chrome instructions on how to automatically install apps and extensions.

Step 2: Sign in to Gong and allow permissions

After installation, Gong needs you to sign in before the extension becomes active. The extension also needs permission to work with the pages it runs on. Chrome asks for these when you first use certain features, and may ask again if the URLs for those applications change.

To sign in:

  1. Go to your Gmail inbox.

  2. In the purple banner at the top of the page, click Sign in.

  3. Sign in to Gong. When you are returned to Gmail, the extension is active.

  4. Refresh the Gmail page to make sure everything loads correctly.

  5. When Chrome shows an alert asking for additional permissions, click Allow.

Note:

If you use Microsoft Dynamics 365, there is one extra step after installation. Sign in to Gong and click Grant permission on the banner at the top of the screen to activate the extension for Dynamics 365.

Frequently asked questions

What’s the difference between installing the Gong extension myself and having an admin deploy it?

For Gmail, self-installing the Gong Chrome extension is sufficient for email tracking, provided the extension is active and your Gmail account is connected to Gong.

Outlook uses a separate Gong Outlook add-in. An admin must deploy the add-in for Outlook email tracking to work.

Why is Chrome asking for permissions again after I already installed the extension?

The URLs for some of the applications the extension works with can change over time. When that happens, Chrome needs your permission again before the extension can interact with the updated URL. Click Allow when prompted.

The Gong banner isn't showing in Gmail after installation. What should I do?

  1. Make sure you are signed in to Gmail with the same account you use to sign in to Gong.

  2. Confirm the extension is switched on in Chrome's extension manager.

  3. Refresh the Gmail page.

  4. In Chrome, switch the extension off and back on, then try again.

If the banner still does not appear, see Troubleshoot Gong Extension in Gmail and supported CRMs.

How do I confirm the extension is on after installation?

Go to chrome://extensions/ in your browser, find Gong Extension, and check that the toggle is switched on. If it is on but you still do not see Gong in Gmail, refresh the page and check that you are signed in to the correct Gmail account.
