Create a rule using Gong data

The following instructions describe how to create a rule that sends Gong data out via Zapier. It assumes you have a Zapier account.

  1. (Recommended) In Gong, save a search with the type of calls you want to trigger a Zap:

    • Go to Conversations > Search, create a filter to set up and save a search to find the required types of calls.

  2. Go to zapier.com, and log in to your Zapier account.

  3. Click Create Zap.

  4. Create the trigger:

    1. Select Gong from the list of apps.

    2. Select New Call as the trigger event.

      We will soon change this to the saved search created in step 1.

    3. Click Continue.

    4. If asked, sign into your Gong account, and allow Zapier access.

      Engagement Events from Zapier asks for access Gong's public API in order to retrieve a list of all workspaces and send user engagement data events to Gong.

    5. If relevant, select the Gong workspace.

    6. Select the saved search created in step 1.

      Note

      If you don't select a saved search, data for all calls are sent from Gong to the selected app.

    7. Click Continue and test the trigger as instructed.

      When the process is complete, review the data collected.

    8. If you're satisfied, click Continue.

  5. Create the action:

    1. Select the destination app from the list of apps.

    2. Select the action event.

    3. Click Continue.

    4. If asked, sign into your account in the third party app, and allow Zapier access.

    5. Set up the action (the exact fields depend on the selected app and action event).

    6. Test the action.

  6. Give your Zap a name, and turn it on when ready.

    Note

    Zaps that pull data from Gong are shown in the Gong Rule Manager (Settings > Data Access > Automation Rules).

    Whenever a call is found that fits the criteria, the Zap rule is triggered and the data sent to your selected application.

The following instructions describe how to create a rule that brings data from a third party app into Gong's activity timeline via Zapier. It assumes you have a Zapier account.

  1. Go to zapier.com and log in to your Zapier account.

  2. Click Create Zap.

  3. Create the trigger:

    1. Select source app from the list of apps.

    2. Select the trigger event.

    3. Click Continue.

    4. If asked, sign into your account in the third party app, and allow Zapier access.

    5. Click Continue and test the trigger as instructed.

    6. If you're satisfied, click Continue.

  4. Create the action:

    1. Select Gong from the list of apps.

    2. Select the action event:

      • Add a "Content Shared" Event Into Gong's Activity Timeline - Push engagement events into Gong when a Gong user shares content with external participants (for example, a contract was “shared” by the account executive with their prospects)

      • Add a "Content Viewed" Event Into Gong's Activity Timeline - Push engagement events into Gong when content is viewed by an external participant (for example, a contract was “viewed” by the prospect)

      • Add a "Custom Action" Event Into Gong's Activity Timeline - Push engagement events into Gong when a content is engaged by an external participant (for example, a contract was “signed” by the prospect)

    3. Click Continue.

    4. If asked, sign into your Gong account, and allow Zapier access.

Where do I create a Zapier rule (Zap)?

You can only create a Zap in Zapier. Any rule you create in Zapier is displayed in Gong's automation rules page and can be enabled or disabled. To edit or delete the rule, you must go back to Zapier.
