Who can use this: Business admin
Available on: Any Gong plan
Ideal for: Sales manager
The AI Topic Tagger manages your company's topic models, which determine how Gong identifies recurring subjects across calls. When your Gong Revenue Architect (RA) delivers a custom topic model, you review the topics, refine the labels and display settings, and activate it so topics begin appearing across Gong.
Note:
Custom topic models require approximately 1,000 hours of recorded calls in your workspace and are built in collaboration with your Revenue Architect. Contact your RA to request a custom model. The base topic model is available on all plans and requires no setup. Learn more about call topics.
Step 1: Review the topic model
After your RA runs the model, open it in Admin center to see the topics it identified before deciding whether to activate it.
To open the topic model:
From the left sidebar, click Admin center, and select Agent Studio.
Hover over AI Topic Tagger and click Settings, then hover over your topic model and click Settings.
Review the list of topics on the left. Select any topic to see its details, including the AI-suggested name and description, common phrases, and call snippets in the right panel.
Step 2: Edit topic details
Before activating, edit any topic names, descriptions, or display settings that do not accurately reflect your company's terminology. Changes save automatically.
To edit a topic:
Select a topic from the list to open it in the right panel.
Edit the name or description as needed. Changes are saved automatically and you don’t need to reactivate the model after renaming a topic.
Under Display, choose whether the topic is shown and select a display color.
Unnamed topics are not displayed by default. If you see unnamed topics in the list and want to show one:
To show an unnamed topic:
Select the unnamed topic to open it.
Listen to the call snippets to understand what it covers.
Enter a name and description, then toggle it on under Display.
Step 3: Activate the model
Activating the model makes topics visible across Gong. Activation processes in the background and may take a few hours to complete.
To activate the model:
Click Activate on the topic model page.
Gong processes the model in the background. Once activation is complete, topics from this model appear on call pages, in search filters, and in team statistics.
Note:
If your company has both a base model and a custom model active at the same time, topics from both models may appear. To avoid duplication, consider deactivating the base model once your custom model is live.
Frequently asked questions
How long does activation take?
Activation typically takes a few hours. If topics are not visible after several hours, contact your Revenue Architect or Gong support.
Can I have more than one topic model active at a time?
Yes. The base model is active by default, and a custom model can be activated alongside it. If you want only custom topics to appear, deactivate the base model before activating the custom one.
Can I create a topic model without a Revenue Architect?
No. Custom topic models are built by Gong's Revenue Architects using your company's call data. You can review, edit, and activate a model once it is delivered, but you cannot build one directly in Admin center.
