Gong supports multiple languages and automatically detects the language spoken in a call.
In most cases, no configuration is required. Gong identifies the language and generates the transcript automatically.
If you need to control how a call is transcribed, you can:
Select a specific language for a call
Set spoken languages for a team member
Select a specific language for a call
If a call was transcribed in the wrong language, or you want the transcript in a specific language, you can reprocess the call and select the language manually.
When you select a language:
The call is transcribed in the language you choose
Automatic language detection is not used for that processing
To do this, reprocess the call from the call page. See Transcribe a call in the correct language for detailed steps.
Set spoken languages
If Gong does not correctly identify the language spoken in a user’s calls, you can define the spoken languages to improve accuracy.
This is especially helpful if:
The speaker has a strong accent
The speaker regularly switches between a limited set of languages
Calls are consistently being transcribed in the wrong language
Setting spoken languages is optional. In most cases, Gong’s automatic detection works without configuration.
When spoken languages are set:
Gong detects the call language only from the selected languages
The transcript is generated in the language identified from that list
The setting applies only to calls the user owns
The setting does not apply when the user is only a participant in the call
To ensure accurate transcripts:
Select all languages the person speaks on calls
If no spoken languages are set, Gong detects the language from all supported languages.

Note: Individual team members can override languages set by their admin, and admins can override the languages set by individual team members.
FAQs
If I set only one language, will all calls be transcribed in that language?
Yes. If you only set one language, it will be used for all calls.
Once I set a language, can it be changed?
Yes, languages can be changed at any time and the change will affect future calls. To change the language of a call that was already transcribed, see this.
If someone speaks multiple languages, do I need to set all of them?
Yes, if you want transcripts in different languages, you need to set all languages that the person will be speaking. This is true even for language that you don't need to set on their own. So, for example, if someone speaks Polish and English, you'll need to set both of them here.
If I set languages for a team, can team members set different languages?
Yes, individual team members can set their own spoken languages. These will override any languages set by the admin.
If a team member sets their own languages, can I override them?
Yes, you can. An admin can override any languages set by a team member. If you don't want to override individual's own languages, you can keep their languages as is, or add languages to the ones they've set.
If multiple languages are spoken in a call, which one will be transcribed?
The transcript will be provided in the language that was spoken for the majority of the call. So, if 51% of the call was in Polish and 49% was in English, the transcript will be provided in Polish.
