Set spoken languages

Article summary

Gong supports 70+ languages, more languages than any other revenue intelligence provider. For a full list of the languages supported in Gong, see this.

If your team speaks in one of our standard languages, we recommend setting the language in advance, to ensure that we detect it correctly. If your team speaks in hyper-optimized languages (Table 2), there's no need to set them in advance since we automatically detect them.

Note: If people on your team speak more than one language, and one of them is a standard language, set all of the languages in advance (even ones that are otherwise detected automatically). For example, if someone speaks both Polish and English during calls, both languages must be set as spoken languages, in order to ensure that transcripts and insights are provided in those languages.

You can set up to 4 languages per person.

Individuals can set their own languages

In addition to setting languages for your team, individual team members can set their own languages via their My Profile page.

Note

Individual team members can override the languages set by their admin, and admins can override the languages set by individual team members.

FAQs

If I set only one language, will all calls be transcribed in that language?

Yes. If you only set one language, it will be used for all calls.

Once I set a language, can it be changed?

Yes, languages can be changed at any time and the change will affect future calls. To change the language of a call that was already transcribed, see this.

If someone speaks multiple languages, do I need to set all of them?

Yes, if you want transcripts in different languages, you need to set all languages that the person will be speaking. This is true even for language that you don't need to set on their own. So, for example, if someone speaks Polish and English, you'll need to set both of them here.

Why is it necessary to set some languages and not others?

The languages you need to set are newly supported in Gong, and setting them enables us to detect them. Over time, Gong's AI will be more familiar with these languages, and they won't need to be set.

If I set languages for a team, can team members set different languages?

Yes, individual team members can set their own spoken languages. These will override any languages set by the admin.

If a team member sets their own languages, can I override them?

Yes, you can. An admin can override any languages set by a team member. If you don't want to override individual's own languages, you can keep their languages as is, or add languages to the ones they've set.

If multiple languages are spoken in a call, which one will be transcribed?

The transcript will be provided in the language that was spoken for the majority of the call. So, if 51% of the call was in Polish and 49% was in English, the transcript will be provided in Polish.
