Add a trends widget to a dashboard

Who can use this: Business admin

Available on: Gong Forecast

Ideal for: RevOps

Required permissions: Manage dashboards

The Trends widget shows how pipeline is changing week over week, alongside forecast submissions and a projection line. It's designed for leaders who want to see not just the current snapshot, but the direction things are moving and whether the trajectory is healthy.

You add widgets from inside an existing dashboard, so start by navigating to the one you want to build out. If you haven't created a dashboard yet, do that first.

To open the dashboard:

  1. From the left sidebar, click Dashboards.

  2. Select the dashboard you want to add the widget to.

  3. Click + New widget at the top right of the dashboard.

  4. Select Trends.

Tip:

If you have a lot of dashboards and aren't sure where to find yours, see Find and organize dashboards for guidance on searching, filtering, and navigating the Dashboards page.

The line of business connects the widget to a forecast board. The line of business defines the analytics configuration and data scope used by the widget.

To select a line of business:

  1. Click the Line of business dropdown and select a line of business.

Step 3: Configure the pipeline WoW breakdown and forecast category

The Pipeline WoW section controls how the stacked bars are segmented each week. The Forecast section sets which forecast category the widget displays by default. Configure both together since they define what the chart is measuring and how it's broken down.

To configure the breakdown and forecast category:

  1. Under Pipeline WoW, click Breakdown by and select a breakdown option. Breakdown by forecast category is the default and usually the most useful starting point. It shows how much pipeline sits in Commit, Best Case, Pipeline, and so on each week.

  2. Under Forecast, click Default forecast category and select a category.

  3. (Optional) Select Allow viewers to change the selected category to give viewers the flexibility to switch between categories themselves.

Step 4: Set the projection basis

The projection line shows where the current pipeline trend is heading, based on historical data. The lookback period determines how much history it draws from. A longer lookback smooths out short-term noise, while a shorter one is more reactive to recent changes.

To set the projection basis:

  1. Under Projection, click Based on and select a lookback period: Last month, Last Q, Last 2 Qs, Last 3 Qs, or Last 4 Qs.

The team and period settings scope the pipeline data the widget analyzes. Setting these to follow the dashboard means the widget updates when a viewer changes the dashboard selectors, which is useful on shared forecast review dashboards used by multiple managers.

To set the team and period:

  1. Under Select team and period, click Team member is and select a team.

  2. Click Date period is and select a time period.

  3. Click Save.

What do the stacked bars and lines in the Trends widget represent?

Each stacked bar shows the total pipeline for a given week, broken down by the field you selected in Pipeline WoW, for example, by forecast category. The height of the bar and how the segments shift week over week show where pipeline is being added, moved, or lost. The chart also shows three lines: the red line indicates the forecast projection; the orange line shows the forecast submissions of the team under the selected manager; and the purple line shows the forecast submissions of the selected manager.
