The Changes widget shows what drove forecast movement between two points in time, displayed as a waterfall chart. It answers the question leaders ask every week: why is the forecast number different from last week? Deals pushed out, amounts decreased, new deals added, or closed-lost: each type of change gets its own bar, and viewers can click in to see exactly which deals moved.
Step 1: Open the dashboard
You add widgets from inside an existing dashboard, so start by navigating to the one you want to build out. If you haven't created a dashboard yet, do that first.
To open the dashboard:
From the left sidebar, click Dashboards.
Select the dashboard you want to add the widget to.
Click + New widget at the top right of the dashboard.
Select Changes.
Tip:
If you have a lot of dashboards and aren't sure where to find yours, see Find and organize dashboards for guidance on searching, filtering, and navigating the Dashboards page.
Step 2: Select a line of business and configure the forecast category
The line of business connects the widget to a forecast board. The forecast category determines which slice of the pipeline the waterfall chart analyzes. Configure both together since they define what the widget is measuring.
To select a line of business and configure the forecast category:
Click the Line of business dropdown and select a line of business.
Under Forecast, click Default forecast category and select a category. Open deals is the most common starting point, it shows movement across the full pipeline. If you want to focus on committed numbers, Forecast or Best Case may be more relevant. Available options include Open deals, Forecast, Best Case, Open Pipeline, and Closed won.
(Optional) Select Allow viewers to change the selected category to let viewers switch categories themselves.
Step 3: Set the changes tracked date range
This is the time window the widget looks back over to identify deal movements. The default is the last 7 days, which is a good fit for weekly forecast reviews. Extend it if you want to show a broader picture of what's changed over a longer period.
To set the date range:
Under Changes tracked, click Date range and select a date range.
Step 4: Set the team and period
The team and period settings scope the deals the widget analyzes for changes. Setting these to follow the dashboard means the widget updates when a viewer changes the dashboard selectors.
To set the team and period:
Under Select team and period, click Team member is and select a team.
Click Date period is and select a time period.
Click Save.
Frequently asked questions
Why are some expected values missing from the waterfall chart?
Start by checking that all relevant team members are visible and that the forecast category has been consistent for the deals you expect to see. A few things can cause gaps:
Hidden team members won't show up in the data.
If a deal moved between forecast categories mid-period, the movement may land in an unexpected bar or not appear at all.
Missing historical backfill can also cause gaps.
What does each bar in the waterfall chart represent?
The leftmost bar is the starting pipeline value at the beginning of the tracked period, and the rightmost bar is the ending value. The bars between them show the categories of change that explain the difference: deals pushed out to a later period, deals whose amounts decreased, deals lost, and new deals added. Clicking any bar opens the underlying deals so you can see exactly what moved.
