Your profile includes two separate language settings: one that tells Gong which languages you speak on calls, and one that sets the language you want to see call content translated into. Both are in My Profile > Languages.

Set your spoken language

Spoken language tells Gong which languages to consider when detecting what language was spoken on your calls. By default, Gong detects from all supported languages. Setting a spoken language can improve accuracy if you consistently speak in a specific language or switch between a small set of languages.

Setting a spoken language changes how Gong handles detection for your calls:

  • Gong detects the call language only from your selected list.

  • The setting applies only to calls you own, not calls where you are only a participant.

  • If you speak multiple languages on calls, Gong uses the majority language for the transcript. Select all languages you speak so Gong considers the right options.

To set your spoken language:

  1. Go to your username and select My Profile.

  2. Click Languages.

  3. Under Languages spoken during calls, select the languages you speak on calls.

  4. Click Save changes.

Note:

Your admin can set spoken languages on your behalf, and you can override their setting. The most recently saved setting applies.

Set your translation language

Your AI Translator preference sets the default language for call transcripts and AI-generated content you see in Gong, including call outlines, key points, next steps, briefs, and AI-suggested playbook notes. Setting a preference means you do not need to select a language manually on each call.

To set your translation language:

  1. Go to your username and select My Profile.

  2. Click Languages.

  3. Under AI Translator, choose your preferred translation language.

  4. Click Save changes.

Note:

Your admin can set a default translation language for you, and you can override it. The most recently saved setting applies. You can always change the language on demand from any translated surface. Learn more about translating a call transcript.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between spoken language and translation language?

Spoken language affects transcription: it tells Gong which languages to consider when detecting what language was spoken on your calls. Translation language affects display: it sets the language you see call content rendered in. They are independent settings. You could have your calls transcribed in French while displaying them in English.

If I speak multiple languages on calls, which one does Gong use for the transcript?

Gong generates the transcript in the language spoken for the majority of the call. If you spoke Polish for 60% of the call and English for 40%, the transcript is in Polish. To get the transcript in a specific language regardless of distribution, see transcribing a call in the correct language.

Can my admin override my spoken language setting?

Yes. Admins can set spoken languages on behalf of team members, and either party can override the other's setting. The most recently saved setting applies.

Does AI Translator affect how Gong Assistant answers my questions?

No. Gong Assistant responds in the language you ask your question in, regardless of your AI Translator setting.

Can I change these settings later?

Yes. You can update your spoken language and AI Translator preferences at any time. Changes take effect on future calls. To change the language of a call that has already been transcribed, see transcribing a call in the correct language.
