Set spoken languages for your team

Gong automatically detects the language spoken on each call. In most cases, no configuration is needed. If team members have strong accents, regularly switch between a small set of languages, or are consistently being transcribed in the wrong language, setting spoken languages for those team members can improve detection accuracy.

Set spoken languages for team members

When you set spoken languages for a team member, Gong limits language detection to your selected list for calls that person owns. This setting does not apply to calls where they are only a participant.

Before you set spoken languages:

  • Select all languages the person speaks on calls. If you select only one language, all their calls will be transcribed in that language regardless of what was actually spoken.

  • If the person speaks multiple languages on a single call, Gong uses the language spoken for the majority of the call for the transcript.

To set spoken languages for a team member:

  1. From the left sidebar, click Admin center, and select Settings.

  2. Click Team members and select the team member or team you want to update.

  3. Under Languages, select the spoken languages for this person or team.

  4. Click Save changes.

Note:

Team members can set their own spoken languages from their profile, which overrides the setting you configure. If you update the setting after a team member has set their own, your setting takes effect. Learn more about setting language preferences.

Frequently asked questions

What happens if I set only one language for a team member?

Gong transcribes all their calls in that language, regardless of what was spoken. Only set a single language if the team member consistently speaks that language on all their calls.

Does this setting affect calls where the team member is a participant but not the owner?

No. Spoken language settings apply only to calls the team member owns. When they join as a participant on someone else's call, the call owner's language settings determine how that call is transcribed.

Can I update a team member's spoken language setting after setting it?

Yes. You can update spoken language settings at any time. Changes take effect on future calls and do not affect calls that have already been transcribed. Team members can also update their own setting from their profile.

If multiple languages are spoken in a call, which one will be transcribed?

Gong transcribes the call in the language spoken most during that call. If the person switches between languages, the transcript reflects whichever language dominated the conversation.

If I set spoken languages for a team, can team members set different languages?

Yes. Team members can update their own spoken language settings from their profile. Their setting overrides the one you configure. If you update the setting again, yours takes effect.

If a team member sets their own languages, can I override them?

Yes. If you update a team member's spoken language setting, your setting takes effect regardless of what they previously set. If you want to add to their selection rather than replace it, check their current settings first.
