Who can use this: Any team member
Available on: Any Gong plan
Host your Zoom calls so that they reach Gong, whether the meeting was booked weeks ago, added ten minutes before it starts, or booked for you by someone else. Most of the time there is nothing for you to do, because Zoom records the call and Gong brings it in. The situations below are the ones where you do need to act.
Check that the call is recording
When you join a call you expect to be recorded, check that recording has started. If it has not, start it yourself by selecting Record to the cloud. Gong retrieves and analyzes the recording once the meeting ends.
Warning:
If you stop the recording in Zoom, the call is not recorded at all and it does not come into Gong. There is no partial recording and nothing to recover afterwards, so only stop it when you are certain you do not want the call recorded. If you want to keep part of the call out of the recording, pause it instead of stopping it.
Take control of the recording
You need to be the Zoom host or a co-host to start, stop, or pause a recording. If the recording controls are not available to you, work out which of the two situations you are in.
If someone else on the call is the host, ask them to make you a co-host. Check the participant list to see who it is.
If nobody appears to be the host, you are probably signed out of Zoom. Sign in and rejoin, or claim the host role with your host key.
Get a last-minute meeting recorded
Gong picks up meetings that were scheduled or changed at the last minute, as long as it knows about them before or as the meeting starts. There are three ways to do that.
Create or update the meeting in your calendar.
Schedule it manually on your Gong homepage.
Add the Gong recorder to the meeting invite. In Outlook, forward the invite as an attachment. Learn more about recording meetings with the Gong recorder.
Run back-to-back meetings
When one meeting runs straight into the next, stop the recording at the end of the first and start it again for the second. That way Gong gets two separate recordings and matches each one to the right meeting.
This matters most when you are using your personal meeting room for both, because the meetings share a single link and Gong has nothing else to tell them apart.
Schedule a call for someone else
If you are booking a call for a colleague and you are not going to be on it yourself, use their personal meeting room link when you set the meeting up. That makes them the host, so they can control the recording and the call is attributed to them in Gong.
Frequently asked questions
Will all my Zoom calls be recorded?
Not necessarily. Which of your calls are recorded is decided by your company's recording and privacy settings in Gong, not by you. If you are not sure what applies to you, ask your Gong admin. Learn more about recording consent.
What does my customer see or hear about the recording?
Zoom always tells participants that the call is being recorded, and that notification cannot be turned off. People on the Zoom desktop client or mobile app see a recording consent message. People who dial in by phone hear an audio prompt, either as they join a call that is already recording or at the point recording starts.

My call was recorded but it isn't in Gong. Where is it?
Zoom recording the call is only part of it. Gong also needs to have known the meeting was happening, and your company's recording rules have to allow it. Check the following:
Gong knew about the meeting. Your calendar needs to be connected, or the meeting needs to have been scheduled in Gong. See Get a last-minute meeting recorded above.
Recording was not switched off for the call. If your company lets you decide call by call, check that this one was set to be recorded.
Your company's recording rules cover this call. Internal calls, for example, are often left out. Learn more about defining your recording settings.
If all of those look right, contact Support.
