Who can use this: Any team member
Available on: Gong Foundation
Required permissions: Enrich: Contact details and account information
Automatic enrichment retrieves missing contact details before a flow step needs them. You do not need to manually click Enrich contact when automatic enrichment is configured for the flow.
Your admin must configure enrichment in the flow ruleset before it can run.
When automatic enrichment runs
When you add a contact to a flow, Enrich checks whether the contact has the details required by the flow. Automatic enrichment runs only when:
The flow contains an email step and the contact is missing a valid email address.
The flow contains a call step and the contact is missing a valid phone number.
Your admin has enabled the relevant enrichment option in the flow ruleset.
If the contact already has the required detail, Enrich skips enrichment for that detail.
When enrichment runs:
The contact changes to Enriching.
Enrich checks the configured data partners for the missing detail.
If a valid detail is found, the contact changes to In flow, and the flow continues.
Email and phone enrichment run independently. If a flow requires both details, Enrich checks each one separately and can retrieve them at the same time. One detail may be found even if the other is not.
Automatic enrichment runs in the background. You can continue working while Gong retrieves the required details.
What happens when Enrich finds no data
If none of the configured data partners returns the required detail, Gong cannot complete that part of the flow.
The flow ruleset determines how the contact is handled when the required detail is not available. Depending on the configuration, the contact may remain out of the flow, continue without the missing detail, or be moved according to the flow's fallback behavior.
If the contact does not enter the flow, you can try to enrich the contact manually.
Bounced emails
If an email sent from a flow bounces and your admin has configured bounce recovery, Gong can:
Retrieve a new email address for the contact.
Resend the email to the new address.
Apply the configured fallback if the email bounces again.
The fallback can pause the flow, remove the contact from the flow, or move the contact to a flow without email steps. Gong can also create an email bounced to-do for follow-up.
Frequently asked questions
Does flow enrichment use the same data partners as manual enrichment?
Yes. Both manual and automatic enrichment use the data partners and waterfall order configured by your admin.
Does flow enrichment use credits?
Flow enrichment uses the same credit rules as manual enrichment. Learn more about how Enrich uses credits.
Can I choose whether to enrich a contact when I add them to a flow?
No. Flow enrichment is controlled by the flow ruleset. If it is enabled and the contact is missing a detail required by the flow, Gong starts enrichment automatically.
How can I tell whether a contact is being enriched?
A contact being processed shows the Enriching status. When enrichment finishes successfully, the status changes to In flow.
What if I do not see automatic enrichment running?
Ask your admin to check whether:
Enrichment is enabled for the flow ruleset.
The flow contains the relevant email or call step.
The contact is missing the required detail.
Your company has Gong credits available.
Can I enrich the contact manually?
Yes. Open the contact and select Enrich contact. Manual enrichment may be useful when you need to retrieve a detail outside the flow process or when automatic enrichment does not return data.
What happens if a replacement email bounces again?
The flow ruleset applies the configured fallback. The contact may be removed from the flow, moved to a flow without email steps, or remain paused for follow-up.
