About configurable forecast boards

Who can use this: Any team member

Available on: Gong Forecast

Required permissions: Forecast page access, View forecasts

With configurable forecast boards, your company chooses how forecast data is structured, displayed, and calculated, so each board matches how your team forecasts. Business admins build the boards. Team members and managers use them to submit and review forecasts. Legacy forecast boards are still available alongside configurable boards.

How a forecast board works

A board is a set of columns, and every number in a column comes from a defined metric or target. Boards use the same infrastructure as Gong dashboards, so admins can build columns from the basic metrics, formula metrics, targets, and other entities already available in Data Studio. Learn more about metrics, targets, and list views.

Column types

Each column on a board is one of three types:

  • Forecast submission: Team members enter their forecast numbers for each period, or Gong submits a metric's value for them automatically. Learn more about creating a submission column.

  • Metric: The column shows a value that Gong calculates from Gong and CRM data, such as bookings or gap to quota. Team members see the value but can't edit it. Learn more about creating a metric column.

  • Target: The column shows a predefined target. Team members see the target but can't edit it. Learn more about creating a target column.

What admins can configure

Within those columns, admins decide what the board calculates, which deals each column includes, and how numbers are submitted:

  • Basic and formula metrics: Basic metrics calculate a value from a single field, such as a sum or count. Formula metrics combine CRM, target, and submission data to calculate values such as gross or net retention, forecast coverage, or weighted pipeline.

  • Filtering: Admins can filter a metric by opportunity or account properties, such as opportunity type or record type, to limit a column to relevant deals.

  • Progress visuals: Progress bars, deltas, arrows, percentage changes, and attainment indicators help team members compare performance against goals.

  • Manual and automatic submissions: Team members can enter a submission manually, with related deal metrics shown for reference, or Gong can submit a metric's value for them. Each submission column can use its own workflow. For example, Best case can be submitted automatically while Commit is submitted manually.

  • Company snapshot: The day and time each week when Gong takes a snapshot of all deals and forecast numbers. You set it once for all boards. Learn more about creating a forecast board.
