Who can use this: Any team member

Required permissions: Enrich: Contact details and account information

Configure a flow ruleset to automatically retrieve missing contact details when contacts enter a flow. You can also configure automatic recovery when an email sent from a flow bounces.

Before you begin

  • Enrich must be enabled for your company.

  • Data partners must be configured for email and phone enrichment.

  • Your company must have available Gong credits for Gong-connected data partners.

  • Decide which flows should use automatic enrichment.

How automatic enrichment works

Flow rulesets can trigger contact verification and enrichment when:

  • A contact is added to a flow and contact verification is enabled. Enrich checks whether the contact still works at the account listed in Gong.

  • A flow containing a call step starts and the contact is missing a valid phone number.

  • A flow containing an email step starts and the contact is missing a valid email address.

  • An email sent from a flow bounces.

Contact verification runs for every contact added to the flow, whether or not the contact is missing an email address or phone number. Email and phone enrichment runs only when the relevant detail is missing.

Configure enrichment in a flow ruleset

Use a flow ruleset to retrieve missing contact details and recover from bounced emails automatically.

To configure automatic enrichment:

  1. From the left sidebar, click Assets, and select Flow rulesets.

  2. Create a new ruleset or open an existing ruleset.

To test the settings before applying them to active flows, click the More actions icon for an existing ruleset, and select Duplicate.

  1. Under Enrich contact details, configure the enrichment triggers:

    • Phone: For When a flow containing a call step starts, and the contact is missing a valid phone number, select Automatically enrich with a phone number.

    • Email: For When a flow containing an email step starts, and the contact is missing a valid email address, select Automatically enrich with an email address.

  2. Under Bounce handling, for When an email bounces, select Automatically enrich the contact with a new email address and resend the email.

  3. Configure the fallback behavior if the replacement email bounces:

    • Select Pause the flow, Remove the contact from the flow, or Move the contact to an email-free flow.

    • Select Create an email bounced to-do.

  4. For When a flow starts, select Validate if the person still works at the company. If not, don't start the flow.

  5. Name your ruleset if new, and click Save.

Apply the ruleset to flows

Apply the ruleset to each flow where you want automatic enrichment to run. You can assign the ruleset when you create a new flow or update the ruleset assigned to an existing flow.

Test automatic enrichment

Test the ruleset with a contact who is missing the detail required by the flow.

To test automatic enrichment:

  1. Apply the ruleset to a test flow.

  2. Add a contact who is missing a valid email address or phone number.

  3. Save the flow.

  4. Confirm that the contact changes to Enriching.

  5. When enrichment completes, confirm that the contact changes to In flow if the required detail was found.

If no data is found, the contact is handled according to the flow and ruleset configuration.

Frequently asked questions

Does automatic enrichment run for every contact added to a flow?

No. Enrichment runs only when the flow contains the relevant email or call step and the contact is missing the required detail.

Can email and phone enrichment run at the same time?

Yes. Email and phone enrichment run independently. If a flow requires both details, Enrich can retrieve them at the same time.

What happens if no data is found?

The contact is handled according to the flow and ruleset configuration. Check the contact's status and review the ruleset if the contact does not enter the flow.

What happens if the replacement email bounces?

The fallback configured under If it keeps bouncing is applied. The contact can be paused, removed from the flow, or moved to a flow without email steps. An email bounced to-do can also be created for follow-up.

Does flow enrichment use credits?

Flow enrichment uses the same credit rules as manual enrichment. Learn more about how Enrich uses credits.
