Article summary

Once you have installed the Gong for Salesforce app, perform these tasks to configure the Gong conversation object to display Gong data. These should be done by a Salesforce system admin.

Prepare buttons and links

  1. Go to Setup > Object Manager and click the Conversation custom object.

  2. Select Page Layouts and then Gong call layout.

  3. In Classic mode, in the left pane, select Buttons and drag the View in Gong custom button to the Custom Buttons area.

  4. In Lightning mode, click the override the predefined actions link in the Salesforce Mobile and Lightning Experience Actions.

  5. From the Mobile & Lightning Actions pane, drag the View in Gong and View Transcript links to the Salesforce Mobile and Lightning Experience Actions section.

  6. Place the buttons to the left and drag away all the existing buttons (except for 'Sharing' if this is relevant in your organization).

  7. Click Quick Save and continue adjusting the page layout.

Prepare lists

  1. Go to Setup > Object Manager and click the Conversation custom object.

  2. Select Page Layouts and then Related lists in the left pane.

  3. Drag the following Related Lists from Quick Find to Related Lists: Accounts, Contacts, Interaction Stats, Invitees, Notes, Opportunities, Leads, Participants, Structure, Topics, and Trackers.

    Note: You can adjust later the exact order of the related lists, based on your end user's requirements.

  4. Click Save and close the Page Layout editor.

  5. You now need to add the Gong Conversations related list in the Accounts, Opportunities, Contacts and Leads page layouts. Go to the Object Manager and select the Account object and then Page Layouts.

  6. In the Related Lists section, select the Gong Conversation related list and drag it to the Related Lists area in the lower pane, and then click Save.

  7. Repeat this step in the ContactLead and  Opportunity objects.

  8. For each Gong Conversations related list please confirm that the following fields are selected and displayed, as select the Sort By field.

    • For the Gong Conversations related list in the Opportunity page layout:

      In the Buttons area, make sure that both the New and Change Owner checkboxes are not selected.

    Repeat for the following related lists.

    • For the Gong Conversations related list in the Accounts page layout:

Define call Highlights and Transcript sections (Classic Mode Only)

  1. Go to Gong Call Layout page and then create two new sections named Call highlights and Transcript by dragging each page's section to the Page Layout, Details area which is highlighted green.

  2. Define the following properties for each section:

    • Highlights:

      • Section name: highlights

      • Display section header on: Select only

      • Details page, Layout: Select only one column

    • Transcript:

      • Section name: transcript

      • Display section header on: Select only

      • Details page, Layout: Select only one column

  3. Click the Visualforce pages section and drag the Call highlights and Transcript pages.

  4. Define the following in the Properties of each Visualforce page:

    Pixel width = 100%

    Pixel height = 510

  5. Click Save.

Enabling Highlights and Transcript canvas permissions

  1. Go to Setup, select App manager and then click the Manage button to access Gong Canvas app.

  2. In the Gong Canvas app connected app page, select Edit policies to display the Edit policies.

  3. Switch the permitted users to Admin approved users are pre-authorized and click Save.

  4. In the Gong Connected app page, scroll down to Profiles , click Manage Profiles and add all relevant profiles to the Canvas app.

Set up Gong Deal Canvas app

Follow the steps in this section to be able to view the Gong Account page in Salesforce.

Note

You must have Gong for Salesforce v2.20 or later. Learn how to upgrade your instance here.

If you have Salesforce Classic, follow the steps in this section: Configure Deals in Salesforce Classic

If you have any other Salesforce version, follow the steps in these 3 sections:

Enable the Deal Canvas app

  1. In Salesforce, navigate to Setup > Manage Connected Apps, and locate Gong Deals Canvas app.

  2. Click Edit, and change Permitted Users to Admin approved users are pre-authorized.

  3. Click Save.

  4. Click Gong Deals Canvas App and select Profiles you want to apply this app to.

    Note that only users with these profiles will be able to view what the canvas app displays.

Apply Deals Canvas in Accounts

Perform the following steps for all relevant Lightning Record Pages:

  1. Navigate to Setup > Object Manager > Account > Lightning Record Pages.

    Note

    We recommended you place the canvas in a wide pane, preferably in the Tabs component, although it is not mandatory to do so.Your content goes here

  2. Select a new tab with a custom tab label named Gong.

  3. From the Components pane, drag a Visualforce component to the newly created tab.

  4. Select GongDealsInAccount Visualforce page, clear the Show Label checkbox, and set the Height to 700.

  5. Click Save.

Apply Deals Canvas in Opportunity

Perform the following steps for all relevant Lightning Record Pages:

  1. Navigate to Setup > Object Manager > Opportunity > Lightning Record Pages.

    Note

    We recommended you place the canvas in a wide pane, preferably in the Tabs component, although it is not mandatory to do so.

  2. Select a new tab with a custom tab label named Gong.

  3. Drag a Visualforce component to the newly created tab.

  4. Select GongDealsInOpportunity Visualforce page, clear the Show Label checkbox, and set the Height to 700.

Configure Deals in Salesforce Classic

If you have Salesforce Classic, follow the steps below to view the Gong Account page in Salesforce.

  • To define the relevant Account/Opportunity Page Layouts, drag the Visualforce page to the page layout.

Add View in Gong button

Add the "View in Gong" button to enabling jumping from Salesforce to the relevant page in Gong. This action is available in the Account, Opportunity, and Lead pages.

  1. Go to Setup > Object Manager > Account > Page Layouts.

  2. Click the page layout for Account, Opportunity, or Lead, and then select Mobile & Lightning Actions in the left pane.

  3. Drag the View Account in Gong button to the Lightning Experience Actions area.

  4. Click Save and repeat for each page layout.

Assigning permission sets instead of profiles

Gong for Salesforce is shipped with end-user permissions for administrators and users.

Note that when the app is installed for Admins Only, users permissions are managed with Permission Sets. See instructions for Administrators below.

  1. Users: Go to Setup > Administration permission sets. Find the Gong Users Permission set, click Manage assignments and select the users who work with Gong.

  2. Administrators For Salesforce System Administrators, select the Gong Admin Permission set and assign it to the relevant system admins.

Uploading Gong calls to Salesforce

To upload a Gong conversation to Salesforce, from the company settings page, go to Salesforce.

You'll need a Salesforce user for authentication while connecting Gong to Salesforce.

Make sure to assign the Gong API User permission set to the user if they do not have a View all and Modify all system administrator profile.
