Gong Forecast*
Configurable forecast boards let you control how forecast data is structured, displayed, and calculated, so you can match your board setup to how your team actually forecasts.
They use the same infrastructure as Gong’s Revenue analytics dashboards, which means you can build rollups using existing metrics (basic and formula), targets, and other entities from your analytics library. Because every number on the board is tied to a defined metric or target, you can build rollups that reflect how your business measures revenue, whether you forecast for retention, renewals, new business, or any other sales motion.
Key capabilities of the configurable forecast boards include:
Column-by-column customization: Each board is composed of configurable columns, based on three types: forecast submission, metric, or target. This allows full control over the data displayed and how it’s structured.
Basic and formula metrics in forecasting: Teams can use metrics directly within the forecast rollup board. Formula metrics can be created using a mix of CRM, target, and submission data to calculate values such as gross or net retention, forecast coverage, or weighted pipeline.
Advanced filtering: Admins can define filters based on opportunity properties, such as opportunity type or record type, to limit boards to relevant deals.
Metric/target attainment visualizations: Visual elements such as progress bars, deltas, arrows, percentage changes, and attainment indicators help users quickly compare performance against goals.
Manual and auto-submissions: Submissions can be entered manually, with related deal metrics displayed beneath for reference, or submitted automatically using metric data. Each submission column can use a different workflow. For example, Best case can be auto-submitted while Commit is submitted manually.
Quarterly totals calculation: Columns can include a calculated quarterly totals that update as the quarter progresses by combining actuals from completed months and submissions from upcoming months. This value can be used as a reference or submitted automatically.
End-user friendly experience: Despite the advanced configuration options, the user interface remains simple. Team members can click into cells, view or enter forecasts, and drill into associated deals with a few clicks.
Legacy vs. configurable forecast boards
Until legacy forecast boards (lines of business) are fully retired, both configurable boards and legacy boards remain available. While both types of boards support forecasting workflows, configurable boards offer greater flexibility. Here are the main differences between the two:
Legacy forecast boards | Configurable forecast boards | |
---|---|---|
CRM fields: Amount, User, and Date | A single selection applies to the entire board. Amount can be customized per category. | Configured per column by selecting a designated metric |
Targets | Included in the Target attainment category | Can be added to any column |
Formula calculation | Not supported | Both basic and formula metrics can populate board columns |
Forecast categories | Hard-coded by Gong (Target attainment, Coverage, Commit, Best Case, and Pipeline) and customized by the business admin. | Fully configured by the business admin |
