Trimming a call removes only the portion you select and keeps the rest of the recording available. You can restore trimmed content for up to six months after the call was recorded. Deleting a call permanently removes the recording and its associated data. Trimming, restoring, and deleting a call each require different permissions.
Trim a call recording
Required permissions: Call owner or Tech admin
Trimming removes a selected portion of the call. The call is temporarily unavailable while Gong processes the change. You can restore trimmed parts for up to six months from the recording date. After six months, the original recording is discarded and only the trimmed version remains.
Important:
If the call was shared with a customer before trimming, the customer may still have access to the untrimmed version. To ensure the customer receives the trimmed version, cancel access to the existing share and share the call again Learn more about sharing a call with customers.
To trim a call recording:
Open the call page.
Below the call screen, click the Scissors icon.
Drag the yellow bars on the timeline to select the section you want to remove.
Click Trim out this part.
The call is temporarily unavailable while Gong processes the trim. Once processing is complete, the trimmed section no longer appears in playback, the transcript, or AI-generated content.
Restore a trimmed recording
Required permissions: Trim part of the call
You can restore the original recording within six months of trimming. After six months, the trimmed content is permanently discarded and cannot be recovered. Restoring triggers Gong to reanalyze the call, which usually takes less than one hour.
To restore a trimmed recording:
Open the call page.
Click the trimmed section on the timeline to select it.
Click Restore entire call
Gong restores the original recording and reanalyzes the call. The full transcript, AI content, and stats update once processing is complete.
Delete a call
Required permissions: Delete calls
Deleting a call permanently removes it from Gong. This action cannot be undone.
Warning:
Deleting a call removes the recording, transcript, all comments, scores, notes, stats, related tasks, and the Salesforce Gong Conversation record where applicable. This cannot be recovered.
To delete a call:
Open the call page.
Click the More actions
at the top of the call page.
Select Delete call.
Confirm the deletion when prompted.
Note:
Bulk deletion of multiple calls is restricted to tech admins. Learn more about taking bulk actions on calls.
Frequently asked questions
Can I restore a trimmed section after six months?
No. After six months, the trimmed content is permanently discarded. Restore the recording before the six-month window closes if you need the original.
Will a customer who received a shared link still see the untrimmed version after I trim?
Trimming does not automatically revoke existing customer share links. Customers may still access the original, untrimmed version through a link shared earlier. Cancel the existing share and send a new link after trimming to ensure they see only the updated version.
What exactly is removed when I delete a call?
Deleting a call removes the recording, transcript, all comments, scores, notes, related tasks, call stats, and the Salesforce Gong Conversation record where applicable. None of this can be recovered after deletion is confirmed.
