After you create a metric, you can edit it, duplicate it as a starting point for a new one, or delete it when it is no longer needed. Changes you make to a metric take effect immediately across all dashboards and Forecast boards that use it.
Edit a metric
Edit a metric to update its name, definition, or drilldown view. Any change takes effect immediately across all dashboards and Forecast boards that use the metric. The metric shows a banner listing how many items will be affected. Click Show details to see which ones before saving.
To edit a metric:
From the left sidebar, click Admin center.
In the Settings tab, click Metrics on the Data Studio card.
Find the metric you want to update, click the More actions icon, and select Edit.
Make your changes.
Click Save.
Note:
You can edit preset metrics, but you cannot delete them.
Duplicate a metric
Duplicate a metric to use it as a starting point for a new one.
To duplicate a metric:
From the left sidebar, click Admin center.
In the Settings tab, click Metrics on the Data Studio card.
Find the metric, click the More actions icon, and select Duplicate.
Rename the metric and update the definition as needed, then click Save.
Delete a metric
Delete a metric when it is no longer in use. Deletion is permanent and cannot be undone. Gong checks whether any widgets or formula metrics currently use the metric before allowing deletion. If the metric is currently used by any dashboard widget or formula metric, deletion is blocked and Gong shows which objects depend on it. Remove or update those dependencies first, then delete the metric.
To delete a metric:
From the left sidebar, click Admin center.
In the Settings tab, click Metrics on the Data Studio card.
Find the metric, click the More actions icon, and select Delete.
Confirm the deletion when prompted.
Note:
Preset metrics can be edited but not deleted.
Frequently asked questions
How do I know which dashboards are using a metric before I edit or delete it?
The metrics list has a Used in column showing how many items reference each metric, for example "3 dashboard widgets" or "2 formula metrics, 1 dashboard widget." When you open a metric to edit it, the builder also shows a banner with the exact count and a Show details link. Review this before making changes.
Can I undo a metric deletion?
No. Deleted metrics cannot be recovered.
Can I delete a metric that is used in a formula metric?
No. Gong blocks deletion if any formula metric uses the metric as an entity. Delete or update the formula metric first, then delete the underlying metric.
