Metrics, targets, and list views are the building blocks you configure in Data Studio. Once set up, they are available across dashboards and Forecast boards, where your team uses them to track performance and manage pipeline.
Metrics
A metric is a saved measurement that specifies which data Gong aggregates and how. Dashboard widgets and Forecast board columns display whatever the metric is configured to measure.
Metrics come in two types:
Basic metric: Aggregates a single field on a CRM object, for example, the sum of opportunity amounts or a count of activities completed in a period.
Formula metric: Combines two or more existing metrics, targets, or forecast submissions using a mathematical expression, for example, win rate or pipeline coverage.
Gong also provides a set of preset metrics. These appear alongside your custom metrics and can be edited but not deleted.
Metrics are managed in Admin center > Data Studio > Metrics, and creating and editing them requires the Manage metrics permission. When you edit a metric, every dashboard widget and Forecast board column that uses it picks up the change immediately.
Targets
A target is a performance benchmark for a metric, assigned to team members or teams for a defined period. When a target is configured, dashboards can display attainment alongside the raw metric value, giving viewers a reference for whether a result is above or below expectation. Targets can also be added as columns on Forecast boards.
Targets are managed in Admin center > Data Studio > Targets. Creating and editing targets requires the Manage targets permission, which is separate from Manage metrics.
Metrics and targets are independent. A metric works whether or not a target exists for it. Targets add a goal reference layer but do not affect how the metric calculates.
List views
A list view is a saved view that controls what record details appear when a team member drills into data from a dashboard widget or a Forecast board. You define which fields show in the table, their order, and the default sort direction.
Gong provides a generic account view that applies automatically to all account-based metrics until you replace it. You can create additional views and assign a different default per metric, or override the default for a specific widget.
List views are managed in Admin center > Data Studio > List views. Creating and editing list views requires either the Manage metrics or the Manage dashboards permission.
Where these assets are used
Metrics, targets, and list views are shared across Gong.
Dashboards: Widgets reference metrics directly and can display target attainment alongside each value. Account-based widgets use list views to control the drilldown table that opens when a team member inspects the underlying records.
Forecast boards: Configurable Forecast boards support metric and target columns that reference the same Data Studio assets. You can also create and edit metrics directly from the Forecast board column setup flow, and they appear in Data Studio immediately.
Changes to any of these assets take effect immediately across Gong.
