Who can use this: Business admin
Available on: Gong Forecast
Ideal for: RevOps
Required permissions: Manage dashboards
Build a dashboard from scratch or generate one from a template. Templates generate a set of widgets designed around a common business question. After generating a dashboard from a template, you have full control over it as if you built it from scratch.
Before you start either way, we recommend:
Planning: Identify the audience for the dashboard, the business questions it should answer, and how frequently viewers will use it.
Exploring: Check whether a similar dashboard already exists before building a new one.
Prebuilding: Make sure the metrics and targets the dashboard will need are already set up in Admin center > Data studio.
Build your own
Building a dashboard from scratch opens a blank canvas. You set the dashboard name, description, and date filter, then add widgets one by one.
To build a dashboard from scratch:
From the left sidebar, click Dashboards.
Click + New dashboard and select Build your own.
Enter a Name and Description to help viewers understand the dashboard's purpose.
Under Manage date range options, configure the date filter:
To disable date filtering entirely, click the Enable date range selection toggle and turn it off. Use this when the dashboard content is time-independent.
If the dashboard isn't meant to be time-independant, click the Period type dropdown and select an option:
Fiscal calendar: Filters the dashboard by fiscal periods based on your company's fiscal calendar.
Rolling range: Filters the dashboard using relative date ranges.
Both - Fiscal primary, rolling secondary: Enables both filter types, with the fiscal calendar as the default.
Both - Rolling primary, fiscal secondary: Enables both filter types, with the rolling range as the default.
Click Save. The dashboard opens in draft mode, and you can start adding widgets.
Click + New widget to open the widget gallery and start adding widgets. See About dashboard widgets for guidance on each widget type.
Important:
Not all widgets support all date picker types. Forecast rollup and Target attainment widgets support fiscal dates only and do not work with Rolling range date pickers. If you use a combined date picker, those widgets can only be filtered by fiscal calendar dates. Check widget compatibility before choosing your date filter type. You can change it later via Edit dashboard settings, but switching to an incompatible type may make some widgets unsupported or prevent them from displaying data as expected.
Generate from template
Templates create a pre-built set of widgets designed around a common business question. Each template shows you who it's for, what viewers will see when they open the dashboard, and what prerequisites you need before generating it. After generating, you can add, edit, or remove widgets as you would on any dashboard.
Available templates
Each template is designed around a specific business question and generates a matching set of widgets.
Pipeline health: Analyze pipeline health with advanced signals, risk indicators, and deeper deal-level insights.
Performance review: Review and plan ahead based on your periodic key metrics insights.
Leadership forecast: Make informed leadership decisions based on your business performance and gap analysis.
Pipeline generation: Drive growth by monitoring the generation of new opportunities in your pipeline.
Steps to generate
Generating from a template takes you through a short setup wizard. The wizard steps vary by template but follow the same pattern: mapping the template's required data to your existing metrics, CRM fields, and forecast or deal boards.
To generate a dashboard from a template:
From the left sidebar, click Dashboards.
Click + New dashboard and select Generate from template.
Browse the gallery and select the template that matches the business question you want to answer.
Review the template preview. It shows:
Who's this for: The intended audience.
What they'll get: What the dashboard will show.
What you need: The metrics, CRM fields, and other prerequisites required to generate the dashboard.
Click Continue.
Gong walks you through a short setup wizard. Each step asks you to map a requirement from the template to your existing data, for example, selecting which metrics to use for specific slots, which CRM field represents a deal attribute, or which forecast or deal board to base forecast widgets on. The steps vary by template. Work through each step and complete the selections shown.
Note:
Some fields in the wizard are optional; however, if you skip them, the widgets that depend on those fields won't be generated. A Manage metrics link in the metrics step lets you create a metric on the fly if the one you need doesn't exist yet.
Click Generate dashboard. Gong creates the dashboard with applicable template widgets populated.
Review the result. Add, edit, or remove widgets as needed. See Manage dashboard widgets for how to make changes.
Next steps:
To complete your dashboard, add and configure widgets, then set up filters so viewers can narrow the data by CRM fields. See Manage dashboard widgets and Set up dashboard filters.
Frequently asked questions
Can I change the date filter type after I create the dashboard?
Yes. Open the dashboard, click the More actions icon and select Edit dashboard settings. However, changing the date filter type can break widgets that are already configured. Forecast rollup and Target attainment widgets only support fiscal dates, so switching to a rolling range picker may make some widgets unsupported or prevent them from displaying data as expected. Plan your date filter type before adding widgets.
Some widgets are missing after I generated the dashboard from a template. Why?
Widgets that depend on optional CRM fields or prerequisites you skipped in the setup wizard won't be generated. Go back to the template, complete the missing fields, and generate a new dashboard. Alternatively, add the missing widgets manually and configure them with your existing data.
Can I use a template more than once?
Yes. You can generate as many dashboards from the same template as you like. For example, one per line of business or one per team. Each generated dashboard is independent.
How many widgets should I add to a dashboard?
There is no hard limit, but we recommend keeping dashboards focused with a minimal selection of widgets that viewers can easily digest. If a dashboard feels too large, consider splitting it into two smaller, more focused dashboards.
I don't have the option to create a dashboard. Why?
You need the Manage dashboards permission in your permission profile to create dashboards. Contact your Tech admin to check and update your permissions. The setting is in Admin center > Permission profiles > Business settings.
