Configure dashboards permissions

Who can use this: Tech admin

Available on: Gong Forecast

Grant team members the ability to view or manage dashboards by configuring their permission profiles. Permissions live in two places: Business settings controls who can build and manage dashboards and data assets; Pages controls who can open the dashboards page at all.

Dashboard permissions overview

Four permissions affect dashboard access. The first three are in Business settings and control management capabilities. The fourth is in Pages and controls viewing access.

Note:

These permissions were previously combined in a single Manage Revenue Analytics permission, which was split to allow more granular control. If your profiles were set up before this change, existing dashboards and configurations are unchanged.

Enable dashboard management

Enable these permissions when you want to give someone the ability to create, edit, share, or delete dashboards, or to manage the metrics and targets that power them.

To enable dashboard management permissions:

  1. From the left sidebar, click Admin center.

  2. In the Settings tab, click Permission profiles under the People card.

  3. Click the profile you want to update, or click New profile to create one.

  4. Under Business settings, enable the permissions you need:

    • Manage dashboards: Create, edit, share, delete, and configure filters on dashboards and widgets.

    • Manage metrics: Create, edit, and delete metrics used across Gong.

    • Manage targets: Create, upload, edit, and delete targets.

  5. Click Save.

Note:

Users with Manage dashboards can add existing metrics and targets to widgets without needing Manage metrics or Manage targets. Only grant those permissions to admins who need to create or change the underlying data assets.

Enable dashboard viewing

The Dashboards page permission is the gate for anyone who only needs to view published dashboards. It is separate from the management permissions above and should be granted to anyone who needs to open a dashboard.

To enable the Dashboards page permission:

  1. From the left sidebar, click Admin center.

  2. In the Settings tab, click Permission profiles under the People card.

  3. Click the profile you want to update.

  4. Under Pages, enable Dashboards.

  5. Click Save.

Best practices

When deciding how to structure dashboard access across your team:

  • Grant Manage metrics and Manage targets only to a small group of trusted admins. These assets are shared across dashboards and forecast boards, so changes affect everyone.

  • Use Manage dashboards for the broader group of business admins who build and share dashboards.

  • Grant the Dashboards page permission to everyone who needs to view published dashboards, including managers and reps who are viewers only.

  • Review permission profiles periodically to make sure access reflects current roles and responsibilities.

Frequently asked questions

I enabled Manage dashboards for a user but they still can't open any dashboards. Why?

Manage dashboards controls the ability to build and manage dashboards, not to view them. To view published dashboards, the user also needs the Dashboards page permission enabled under Pages in their permission profile. Check that setting first.

Can someone with Manage dashboards use existing metrics and targets in their widgets?

Yes. Manage dashboards allows users to build widgets using any existing metric or target. Manage metrics and Manage targets are only required to create, edit, or delete those underlying assets. They can also use existing metrics and targets in forecast boards if they have the appropriate forecast board permission.

What is the difference between Manage dashboards and the Dashboards page permission?

Manage dashboards gives editing capabilities: the ability to create, configure, share, and delete dashboards. The Dashboards page permission gives viewing access: it lets a user open and see published dashboards. Most viewers only need the page permission; builders and admins also need Manage dashboards.
