Who can use this: Any team member
Available on: Gong Foundation
Required permissions: Use deep mode
Deep mode is a capability in Gong Assistant for complex, strategic questions that require in-depth analysis. It produces a comprehensive report with supporting evidence and sources rather than a quick answer.
Choose Deep mode when answering your question requires analyzing a large number of conversations, deals, or accounts, or when the research involves multiple areas of investigation. Use Quick mode for focused questions that don't require extensive analysis.
Credit usage
Deep mode consumes credits. Before you start a research, Gong displays an estimated credit range of 1000–3000 credits. The number of credits consumed is determined by the complexity of the analysis.
Admins can review the actual credit consumption for completed reports in the Credit usage report. Learn more about credit policies and monitoring usage.
Required permission
You need the Use Deep mode permission to access Deep mode in Gong assistant.
What you can investigate with Deep mode
Typical research questions include:
Analyzing win and loss patterns across regions, segments, stages, or time periods.
Comparing closed-won and closed-lost deals to identify common patterns.
Conducting competitive analysis across customer conversations.
Analyzing customer sentiment, pain points, product feedback, or adoption trends.
Preparing research for QBRs, annual planning, or other strategic reviews.
Run Deep mode
Deep mode guides you through a series of steps to refine your research before analysis begins. You don't need to start with a perfectly written prompt. Begin with a high-level business question, then use the clarification questions to narrow the scope and confirm the research plan.
Step 1: Start your research
Enter the business question you want to investigate.
To start a research:
Open Gong Assistant from any available entry point.
Change Quick to Deep.
Enter a high-level research question.
Example: Why are we losing deals to competitors?
Step 2: Refine your research
Deep mode asks clarification questions to help define what you want to investigate. The answers you provide determine the scope of the analysis and the resulting report.
When defining your research, consider:
Business question: What do you want to understand?
Scope: Which calls, accounts, deals, teams, or time periods should be included?
Output: What comparisons, evidence, or recommendations should the report include?
Example: Analyze competitor mentions in closed-won and closed-lost opportunities over the last two quarters. What are the main perceived strengths and weaknesses of each competitor, and how did they affect deal outcomes?
You can also narrow the research dataset by applying call filters before running the analysis. Use filters when you already know which calls you want to include. Use your prompt to describe the topics, questions, or patterns you want Deep mode to investigate. To learn more about using filters and uploaded files, see Work with Gong Assistant.
Step 3: Review the research plan
Once enough information has been gathered, a research plan is generated outlining the proposed analysis. Review the plan carefully before starting. If the scope isn't what you intended, answer the clarification questions again or update your request.
To start the analysis:
Review the proposed research plan.
Click Run.
Deep mode starts the analysis and creates the report.
Step 4: Review the report
When the report is ready, you'll receive an email with a link to the completed report. Review the findings together with the supporting evidence and inline citations. You can also:
Continue asking follow-up questions.
Review supporting calls and sources from within the report or Sources in the top right corner.
Copy the report.
Download the report as a Markdown file.
