Ideal for: RevOps

Required permissions: Forecast page access, Manage Forecast board; assign targets.

Add a forecast submission column so team members can enter their forecast numbers for each period. You can also have Gong submit a metric's value for them automatically.

Add a forecast submission column

Add the column from the board builder, either while you build a new board or when you edit an existing one. Choose the amount type first, because you can't change it after you save the board.

To add a forecast submission column:

  1. From the left sidebar, click Revenue, and select Forecast.

  2. Open the board builder:

    • Existing board: Click the More actions More actions icon icon, and select Edit board.

    • New board: Click the More actions More actions icon icon, select New forecast board, and click Add board under Configurable forecast board.

  3. Click Categories in the left panel.

  4. Click the Add category dropdown, and select Forecast submission.

  5. Enter a name for the column in the Column name field.

  6. Click the Amount type dropdown, and select what team members submit:

    • Currency: Team members submit an amount.

    • Unit: Team members submit a count. Enter a short label in the Display name field, up to three letters, for example BKG for bookings.

Note: You can't change the Amount type or Display name after you save the board.

  7. Enter a description in the Description field. The description appears when team members hover over the column name.

  8. Under Add related metric, click the Metric dropdown, and select a metric that helps team members decide what to submit, for example Bookings ($) next to a Commit column.

  9. Click + Add filter to filter the metric so it includes only specific deals.

  10. Click Advanced options, and turn on Auto-submit metric snapshot. Gong then submits the metric's value for team members right before the Company Snapshot is recorded. Auto-submit is available after you select a metric.

  11. Or, to auto-submit the quarterly totals instead, next to Auto-calculate quarterly outcome, click the Auto-calculate toggle to enable it. Gong then automatically submits the totals as the quarter progresses, combining actuals from completed months and submissions for upcoming months.

  12. Select the metric that represents your actuals.

Note: You can either auto-submit the quarterly totals or the primary metric that represents your weekly or monthly forecast, but not both. If Auto-calculate is unavailable, turn off Auto-submit metric snapshot. If Auto-submit metric snapshot is unavailable, turn off Auto-calculate.

  13. Under Customize display, choose how the cell looks on the board:

    • Show submission last change with: Turn on the toggle, and select Arrow Indication, Delta Indication, or Percentage Indication to show how the latest submission changed. This setting is unavailable when Auto-submit metric snapshot is on.

    • Show progress: Turn on the toggle, and select To target or To metric to compare the submission with a target or a metric, and then select the target or metric.

Note: The preview under Customize display shows a single cell with placeholder numbers that don't represent your data.

  14. Drag the column in the Categories list to change where it appears on the board.

  15. Click Save to save the board.

After you save the board, team members can click a submission cell to open a panel on the right. The panel shows the latest submission and whether it was submitted automatically or manually. For an auto-submit column, the panel title reads Submission (Auto-submit) and shows when the forecast was submitted automatically. The board also shows an indication when numbers were submitted automatically.
