In some cases, you may want to prevent Gong from recording a call, either before it starts or while it's taking place. Here are some ways to do this.
Gong records all calls that match your org recording criteria by automatically joining as a participant. The Gong recorder appears in the call’s attendee list, unless your org is set up for native recording.
You can see upcoming calls scheduled for recording on the homepage, under Conversations, and in the Activity calendar.
Find the call you don't want to record, and do one of the following:
When scheduling the meeting, set the meeting to private in your calendar. This ensures that Gong does not have access to any data on the event, so it cannot be recorded.
If you change the meeting visibility to private after it's scheduled, we recommend you do so at least 2 hours before the meeting starts to make sure Gong won’t record it.
Calls in Gong are considered public by default. If a call has been recorded and you want to change its visibility afterwards, this can be done by the call owner only, if they have the correct permission. Click here to learn how to do this.

If you're using web conferencing software, use the meeting waiting room feature to deny entry to the Gong recorder.
To make sure the meeting isn't recorded, do this at least 1 hour before the meeting is set to take place.
In the homepage under Conversations, click View upcoming calls. You’ll see a tab showing upcoming calls set to be recorded. Hover the call you don’t want recorded, click the action menu (three dots), and choose Cancel recording.

When you're set up with a telephony system integration, Gong imports all recorded calls.
If you don't want to record a particular call, you either need to turn off the integration for your entire org (probably not what you want), or make the call using a telephony system that's not set up with Gong.
If the call already made it into Gong, you can delete the call (if your permission profiles allows for this). Learn how.
Hosts, any team member invited to a call, as well as technical admins can stop live recordings from the homepage or the call. This provides team members full control over meeting recordings, even if they're not the host. You can cancel the recording for a single call or recurring calls in a meeting series. If the call is recorded with native Zoom, the host can start recording again using native Zoom controls.
To stop recording from the homepage, select an on air call and select Stop recording.
To stop recording from a call, open an on air call and select . Then select Stop recording.
The host can remove the Gong bot from the meeting. Check how to remove participants for your web conferencing provider, for example:
-
GoToMeeting: Dismiss
-
WebEx: Excuse
-
Zoom:
-
In the Zoom meeting, switch to Gallery view.
-
Find the Gong Recorder participant bot. Click the ellipse and in the menu click Remove.
-
Clear the Report to Zoom checkbox, and click Remove.
A notification is sent confirming the Gong Recorder was removed.
Important
By clearing the Report to Zoom checkbox, you ensure that Gong continues to record all future Zoom meetings, and only ad hoc meetings go unrecorded.
-
If you are using native Zoom recording and are hosting the meeting, you can stop or pause the recording. Learn more.
If you didn't prevent or stop a recording, you can remove the call from Gong by deleting it.
Go here to learn how to delete recorded calls.
If you want to keep the recording but want to control access to it, you can make the call private.
