Who can use this: Any team member
Available on: Any Gong plan
Ideal for: Sales rep
If a call shouldn't be in Gong at all, you can delete it entirely. If only part of the recording is a problem, trim it instead: for example, to exclude a sensitive exchange, remove an off-topic section, or clean up a recording before sharing it with a customer. Trimming removes only the selected section and leaves the rest available, with a six-month window to restore the original if you change your mind. Each action requires different permissions.
Tip:
If you want to limit who can access a recording without removing any content, you can set the call as private instead.
Delete a call
Delete a call when the recording shouldn't be stored in Gong: for example, if it was captured by mistake, contains information that shouldn't be retained, or a participant has requested removal. Deletion permanently removes the call and all associated data and cannot be undone.
Warning:
Deleting a call removes the recording, transcript, all comments, scores, notes, stats, related tasks, and the Salesforce Gong Conversation record where applicable. This cannot be recovered.
Required permissions:
Call actions: Delete calls
To delete a call:
Open the call page.
Click the More actions
at the top of the call page.
Select Delete call.
Confirm the deletion when prompted.
Note:
Bulk deletion of multiple calls is restricted to tech admins. Learn more about taking bulk actions on calls. If the Delete call option isn't available, contact your tech admin.
Trim a call recording
Trim a call to remove a specific section while keeping the rest of the recording intact. You might trim to exclude sensitive content, clean up a recording before sharing it with a customer, or cut off-topic sections from the transcript. Gong temporarily takes the call offline while processing. You can restore the original section within six months of the recording date. After that, only the trimmed version is retained.
Important:
If the call was shared with a customer before trimming, the customer may still have access to the untrimmed version. To ensure the customer receives the trimmed version, cancel access to the existing share and share the call again. Learn more about sharing a call with customers.
Required permissions:
Call owner or Tech admin
To trim a call recording:
Open the call page.
Below the call screen, click the Scissors icon.
Drag the yellow bars on the timeline to select the section you want to remove.

The call is temporarily unavailable while Gong processes the trim. Once processing is complete, the trimmed section no longer appears in playback, the transcript, or AI-generated content.
Restore a trimmed recording
Required permissions: Trim part of the call
You can restore the original recording within six months of trimming. After six months, the trimmed content is permanently discarded and cannot be recovered. Restoring triggers Gong to reanalyze the call, which usually takes less than one hour.

Frequently asked questions
What exactly is removed when I delete a call?
Deleting a call removes the recording, transcript, all comments, scores, notes, related tasks, call stats, and the Salesforce Gong Conversation record where applicable. None of this can be recovered after deletion is confirmed.
Can I restore a trimmed section after six months?
No. After six months, the trimmed content is permanently discarded. Restore the recording before the six-month window closes if you need the original.
Will a customer who received a shared link still see the untrimmed version after I trim?
Trimming does not automatically revoke existing customer share links. Customers may still access the original, untrimmed version through a link shared earlier. Cancel the existing share and send a new link after trimming to ensure they see only the updated version.
