Who can use this: Business admin, Sales rep
Available on: Gong Forecast
When a forecast board is missing, a cell won't accept a number, or a deal or team member isn't where you expect it, find the section below that matches your situation.
I can't see any forecast board
When the Forecast page shows no board, find out whether a board has been built and whether your permissions cover it.
To find out why no board appears:
From the left sidebar, click Revenue, and select Forecast.
Check which situation matches yours:
No board has been built yet: Ask your business admin to build one. Business admins can follow the steps in creating a forecast board.
A board exists, but you can't see it: Ask your Tech admin to confirm that you have a Forecast seat and that your permission profile includes View forecast submissions. Tech admins can follow the steps in setting up access to Gong Forecast.
I can't edit a submission cell
A submission cell that appears grayed out or won't accept a number can be read-only because Gong maintains the value, or because your permissions don't cover the person whose cell you're editing.
To find out why a submission cell is read-only:
From the left sidebar, click Revenue, and select Forecast.
Check which cause matches yours:
The column is set to auto-submit: Gong submits the number for you, so no one can edit it. You can still add a note. The panel title reads Submission (Auto-submit) when a column is set this way.
Your permissions don't cover that cell: Ask your tech admin to confirm that your permission profile includes Edit forecast submissions with a scope that covers the person, such as Their own submissions for team members or Submissions by their direct and indirect reports for managers. Tech admins can follow the steps in setting up access to Gong Forecast.
Note:
The Manage Forecast board; assign targets permission lets business admins build and manage boards, and Edit forecast submissions lets team members change forecast numbers. The two permissions are separate. The board's cadence controls reminders only, so it doesn't limit when team members can edit a submission.
To check whether a column is set to auto-submit as a business admin:
From the left sidebar, click Revenue, and select Forecast.
Click the More actions
icon, and select Edit board.
Click Categories in the left panel.
Select the submission column in the list.
Under Add related metric, click Advanced options to expand it.
Check whether the Auto-submit metric snapshot toggle is on.
The board says my forecast is updated
The board shows that your forecast is updated when it finds an earlier submission for the period. That submission can be manual, such as a test entry, or automatic from an auto-submit column.
To review the earlier submission:
From the left sidebar, click Revenue, and select Forecast.
At the top of the page, select the board, team, and period that show the message.
Click a submission cell in your row.
In the panel on the right, check the latest submission. The panel indicates when a submission was automatic.
Note:
If you can't change the number, the column may be set to auto-submit. See the previous section.
A deal is missing from a column
A deal can be absent from a metric column even though it appears elsewhere in Gong, so compare the deal with what the column counts before you assume the metric is wrong.
To find out why a deal is missing:
From the left sidebar, click Revenue, and select Forecast.
At the top of the page, select the board, team, and period that should include the deal.
Check that the deal owner appears on the board. Excluded team members stay hidden until they are included again. Learn more about excluding and including team members.
Ask your business admin to compare the deal's CRM fields with the filters on the column's metric. Business admins can follow the steps in managing your metrics.
Ask your tech admin to confirm that the deal owner is on the right team in your team hierarchy. Tech admins can follow the steps in setting up access to Gong Forecast.
If the deal appears on a deal board but not on the forecast board, and the checks above don't explain it, the deal may not have synced from your CRM yet. Contact Gong Support so that Support can investigate.
A manager can't see their direct reports
Forecast uses the Manager field on each team member's record, so a manager sees direct reports only when each report's Manager field names that manager. Ask your tech admin to check the hierarchy.
To check the team hierarchy as a tech admin:
From the left sidebar, click Admin center.
In the Settings tab, click Team members under the People card.
Find the manager, and check that their direct reports are listed under them. This comes from the Manager field on each team member's record on the Team members page.
If the hierarchy is out of date, update it in your CRM or provisioning software. Gong reflects those changes on the forecast board.
Note:
The manager also needs the View forecast submissions permission with a scope that covers their reports, such as Submissions by their direct and indirect reports. Learn more about setting up access to Gong Forecast.
I expected submission history in a column
A metric column shows a value that Gong calculates, so it holds no submissions or notes. Only a submission column holds the numbers and notes that team members submit.
To check a column's type as a business admin:
From the left sidebar, click Revenue, and select Forecast.
Click the More actions
icon, and select Edit board.
Click Categories in the left panel.
Find the column in the list, and check whether its type is Metric or Forecast submission.
To collect submissions and notes, ask your business admin to add a submission column to the board. Learn more about creating a submission column.
Frequently asked questions
How do I remove future targets for a team member who left the company?
Upload the target file without target values for the team member's future months. Learn more about managing your targets.
What happens to the deals of a team member who switches teams?
Their current and historical deal data moves with them and rolls up to their new team.
Can I keep historical deals rolled up to the original team?
Yes. Create a placeholder user, and then use one of these methods:
Assign the historical deals to the placeholder user.
Assign the new deals to the placeholder user.
With either method, the historical deals stay rolled up to the original team, and the new deals roll up to the new team.
