Who can use this: Tech admin, Business admin, Azure Global admin

Available on: Any Gong plan

Where to go: Admin center > Settings > Ecosystem > Integrations

To install the Gong Notifications app in Microsoft Teams, first set up the integration between Gong and Microsoft Teams Chat. The integration requires Gong to access Teams via Azure to identify teams and channels that can receive notifications.

Step 1: Connect to Microsoft Teams

For this step, the user setting up the connection must be both:

  • Gong tech admin

  • Azure Global admin

Connect Gong to Microsoft Teams:

  1. In Gong, go to Admin center > Settings > Ecosystem > Integrations.

  2. Click Add Integration at the top right corner. This opens the Gong Collective.

  3. In the Gong Collective, search for Microsoft Teams - Notifications and click Connect.

    Note:

This is different from the Microsoft Teams - Conferencing app.

  4. In the permission request page, click Accept to give Gong access to Teams. Gong is now connected to Microsoft Teams - Notifications.

Step 2: Allow the Gong Notifications app in Microsoft Teams

Allow the Gong Notifications app in Teams as follows:

Step 3: Install the app for users in your company

Install the app for relevant users in your company as follows:

  1. In Teams apps, create a setup policy for anyone you want to automatically have the Gong app installed for.

  2. In the setup policy configuration page, add the Gong Notifications app.

  3. Pin the app as necessary.

  4. Assign a user group to the setup policy.

  5. The Gong Notifications app should be automatically installed for all users included in the policy.

Step 4: Add the Gong app to channels

To receive Gong notifications in channels, add the Gong Notifications app to any standard channel in the team you want the app to be installed in. This automatically adds the app to all standard channels in the team. The app doesn't post to private or shared channels:

  1. Go to the team and select Manage team.

  2. Select Apps > + Add more apps.

  3. Search for Gong Notifications.

  4. Select the channel in the team you want to add the Gong Notifications app to.

    Notification settings
Team members will now receive Gong notifications in Microsoft Teams. Individual users can manage their personal notification settings in their My notifications page.

Required permissions

Azure permissions

In order to connect Gong to MS Teams, Gong needs access to all of your organization’s channels and teams. This enables you to select the channel and team where Gong posts notifications.

The Azure permissions are:

  • Read the names and descriptions of all channels: Read all channel names and channel descriptions, without a signed-in user.

  • Get a list of all teams: Get a list of all teams, without a signed-in user.

  • Read installed Teams apps for all teams: Allows the app to read the Teams apps that are installed in any team, without a signed-in user. Does not give the ability to read application-specific settings.

  • Read all users' basic profiles: Allows the app to read a basic set of profile properties of other users in your organization without a signed-in user. Includes display name, first and last name, email address, open extensions, and photo. This is required in order to map the Gong user to the MS Teams user based on Email address

  • Sign in and read user profile: Allows users to sign-in to the app, and allows the app to read the profile of signed-in users. It also allows the app to read basic company information of signed-in users.

App permissions in MS Teams

The Gong app needs access to the channel information and permission to post messages so it can deliver notifications to the Teams channel it is configured to use. Without this access, the app won’t know where to send notifications.

The app also requires access to your user information to send you direct notifications in Teams when applicable.

  • Read permissions:

    • Information related to you

      • Access my profile information such as my name, email address, company name and preferred language.

    • Information in your chats, channels, and meetings

      • Access information from this team, chat or meeting such as team, chat or meeting name, channel list and roster (including team or chat member's names and email addresses) - and use this to contact them.

  • Read/Write permissions:

    • Send and receive messages and notifications

      • Receive messages and data that I provide to it.

      • Send me messages and notifications.

      • Receive messages and data that team or chat members provide to it in a channel, chat or meeting.

      • Send messages and notifications in a channel, chat or meeting.
