Manage your business numbers

Once you have provisioned business numbers for the Gong Dialer, you can search and filter them, assign them to specific team members, or remove numbers you no longer need.

Search and filter your numbers

Use the search bar and filters to find specific numbers in your list. You can search by phone number or by the username of the team member it is assigned to.

To search and filter your numbers:

  1. From the left sidebar, click Admin center.

  2. In the Settings tab, click Dialer setup under Gong Engage.

  3. In the Business numbers tab, enter a phone number or username in the Search by numbers or username field.

  4. To narrow results further, click + Add filter and select the filters you want to apply.

The list updates to show only numbers that match your search or filter criteria.

Assign a number to a team member

By default, all business numbers are available to every user with dialer access. Assigning a number to a specific team member restricts that number to them only.

To assign a number to a team member:

  1. From the left sidebar, click Admin center.

  2. In the Settings tab, click Dialer setup under Gong Engage.

  3. In the Business numbers tab, find the number you want to assign and click Assign.    

    Note:

    Only team members with dialer access appear in the list.

  4. Select the team member from the list.

Once assigned, only that team member can make calls from that number. You can assign multiple numbers to a single user.

Remove a number

Remove a business number when it is no longer needed. Removing a number releases it from your account permanently.

To remove a number:

  1. From the left sidebar, click Admin center.

  2. In the Settings tab, click Dialer setup under Gong Engage.

  3. In the Business numbers tab, hover over the number you want to remove and click the More actions [icon] icon.

  4. Select Remove number.

The number is removed from your account and is no longer available for calling.

Frequently asked questions

Can I assign the same number to more than one team member?

No. Each number can be assigned to one team member at a time. To make a number available to everyone again, reassign it or remove the current assignment.

Can I reassign a number that is already assigned to someone?

Yes. First unassign the number and then click Assign and select a different team member. The previous assignment is replaced immediately.

Can I recover a number after removing it?

No. Removing a number releases it back to Twilio and it cannot be recovered. If you need the number again, you would need to provision a new one, and the same number is not guaranteed to be available.

What happens to a number assigned to a team member who leaves the company?

The number remains in your account but stays assigned to the deprovisioned user. We recommend reassigning or reviewing assigned numbers when a team member is removed.

Why doesn't a team member appear in the assign list?

Only team members with dialer access appear in the list. If someone is missing, check that the Gong Dialer has been enabled for them in Admin center > Settings > Team members.
