How MCP server tools and APIs consume credits

Who can use this: Tech admin, Business admin

Available on: Any Gong plan

Ideal for: RevOps

MCP server tools and APIs consume Gong credits when they analyze calls and emails to generate AI insights. Credit consumption is based on the amount of data analyzed, not on the tool or access method used.

MCP server tools and APIs use the same consumption model. Running a request through the MCP server consumes the same number of Gong credits as running the equivalent request through an API.

Tools and APIs that consume Gong credits

The following APIs consume Gong credits when generating AI insights:

  • ask-entity API: Answers questions about accounts and deals.

  • get-brief API: Generates structured summaries called briefs.

The following MCP server tools use these APIs:

  • ask_account: Uses the ask-entity API.

  • ask_deal: Uses the ask-entity API.

  • generate_brief: Uses the get-brief API.

How MCP tools consume Gong credits

MCP server tools consume Gong credits when they analyze calls and emails to generate AI insights. The amount of consumption depends on the volume of data analyzed and the tool being used.

ask_account and ask_deal

The ask_account and ask_deal tools analyze calls and emails associated with the selected account or deal.

Each request analyzes the selected data independently. If the same question is asked multiple times, or if multiple questions are asked about the same account or deal, each request consumes Gong credits based on the data analyzed for that request.

The amount of consumption depends on the volume of calls and emails included in the analysis.

generate_brief

The generate_brief tool analyzes calls and emails associated with the selected account, deal, or contact and returns a structured summary.

Brief consumption is affected by both the amount of data analyzed and the number of sections included in the brief.

Each open-ended section performs its own analysis of the selected conversations. Briefs with more open-ended sections consume more Gong credits than briefs with fewer sections.

Factors that affect Gong credit consumption

Several factors influence how many Gong credits are consumed.

Date range

The selected date range determines how many calls and emails are included in the analysis. Longer date ranges generally result in more data being analyzed.

Entity scope

Different entity types can include different amounts of data.

  • Account: Includes conversations associated with the account.

  • Deal: Includes conversations associated with a specific opportunity.

  • Contact: Includes conversations associated with a specific person.

Prompt scope

Broad or open-ended questions can require analysis across a larger set of conversations than focused questions.

Repeated requests

Each request consumes Gong credits independently, even when a similar request was previously run.

Smart trackers and Gong credit consumption

Smart trackers analyze conversations when they are created and run.

Reports, workflows, and brief sections built on existing smart trackers do not consume additional Gong credits for analyzing those same conversations again.

MCP server and API consumption

MCP server tools and APIs use the same underlying consumption model.

Choosing between MCP and APIs does not affect Gong credit consumption. Equivalent requests consume the same number of Gong credits regardless of whether they are run through the MCP server or an API.
