Make international calls with the Gong Dialer

Prev Next

Who can use this: Any team member

Available on: Gong Engage

Ideal for: Sales rep, Sales manager

Call people in other countries from the Gong Dialer, and learn how Gong works out which country a number belongs to. You can make calls to and from almost anywhere, with a few exceptions.

Call other countries

To improve answer rates, ask your admin to get a local number from the regions where you operate. For example, if you're located in the US but want to dial UK numbers, your admin can provision a UK number for you. This helps with conversion rates, because call recipients are more likely to pick up calls from numbers within their locale. Learn more about getting business numbers.

How Gong detects a number's country

To work out which country a phone number in your CRM belongs to, Gong tries each of these steps in order:

  1. Parses the number if it starts with +, and checks that the result is valid.

  2. Adds the country prefix, if the contact has an address with a known country, and checks that the result is valid.

  3. Adds the US prefix and checks that the result is valid.

  4. Adds + at the beginning, parses the number, and checks that the result is valid.

  5. Leaves the number as it is.

International charges

When you dial out of Gong Engage or the Gong mobile app, the call recipient sees your personal number, but the call is relayed from Gong and Twilio, and your company does not incur any charges.

Charges can apply in one case. For example, you call someone in the US from India using a US number. The prospect then calls the US number back, and the call is forwarded to your personal India phone number. Whoever owns the personal phone could incur international charges from their mobile carrier.

Countries you can't call from or to

Two countries have restrictions:

  • India (+91): Indian phone numbers cannot be provisioned, or used and verified as personal forwarding numbers, through Gong Engage due to India government regulations. Calls to India, or to any other outbound destination, can only be made from non-India phone numbers.

  • China (+86): Chinese phone numbers cannot be provisioned, or used and verified as personal forwarding numbers, through Gong Engage. Calls to China can't be made through Gong Engage.
