AI placeholders let you insert AI-generated, context-aware content into your templates, blocks, and flows.
Write what you’d like Gong to generate between double square brackets [[ ]]. Gong interprets your instruction and creates content based on account context, including past calls and emails.
Other types of placeholders include field placeholders, manual placeholders, and custom or third-party field placeholders.
How to use AI placeholders
To add AI placeholders in templates, blocks, or flows:
Open the template, block, or flow you want to work on
Type your instruction between double square brackets [[ ]] anywhere in the body. Use AI placeholders in-line in addition to other text, or as the entire body
Here’s an example of how you could use an AI placeholder in-line in addition to other text:
Hey {{recipient.first_name}},Last time we spoke with recipient.company_name, a few things were top of mind: [[write their main priorities in 2 bullet points]].

Here’s an example of how you could make the AI placeholder the entire body:

Create a template, block, or email within a flow that includes AI placeholders
Click Preview
In the preview panel that opens on the right, select a contact
Click Refresh and wait for the generated result to appear
Always review AI-generated content.

Limitations
This is an early-stage beta, meaning functionality may be limited and performance may vary.
Avoid using AI Placeholders in auto email steps since you can’t review outputs before sending, and you’ll run the risk of having incorrect or irrelevant content.
AI Placeholders do not work directly in the email composer. They can only be used in templates, blocks, and flows.
Currently, there is no visual indication in Gong that shows you when a template includes AI-generated text.
Emails with AI-generated content take time to load, so it’s recommended to start small and test before using across all templates or flows.
The data source for AI placeholders is account-level context. This includes all calls, emails, related contacts, and deals associated with the account.
Recommendations
Always review AI-generated text before sending.
Be specific in your instructions to get the best possible output. The more context you give, the better the results.
Combine AI Placeholders with variables for richer, more personalized content.
Start small. Test AI placeholders with short instructions at first and then refine them over time.
In-line AI placeholders are great for openers and post-sales lines, while AI placeholders as the entire text body can work well for re-engagement or strategic outreach.
