Working with Engage requires an Engage seat
Who's this for? Reps
Blocks allow you create and insert frequently used snippets of text into emails to save you time. Unlike templates that replace all existing text, blocks can be inserted into a specific spot, making it easy to drop in links, paragraphs to answer frequently asked questions, and more in just a click.
There is no limit to the number of company and personal blocks you can have within Gong Engage.
Types of blocks
YOUR BLOCKS: These are the blocks that you’ve created. If you duplicate any company blocks and save them with changes, they’ll be here too.
COMPANY BLOCKS: These blocks are available to everyone in your org. They can only be edited by people who are authorized to do so through their permission profile, but anyone can duplicate them and save them as their own blocks.
How to access blocks
You can access blocks:
In the blocks library: Go to Engage > Blocks to create and manage your blocks.
While writing an email draft: In the email composer, click Blocks to see the all blocks available to you. Select one to insert it into your email at the last place where your cursor was.
While building a flow: While working on a flow email, click Templates and Blocks > Insert a block. Select one to insert it into your flow email at the last place where your cursor was.
Tip:
Variables in Gong are grouped the same way they're grouped in your CRM. To avoid errors, use blocks with variables that align with the entity you're reaching out to. For example, if you're emailing a lead, make sure you're using the "Lead First Name" variable instead of the "Contact First Name" variable.
Create a block
Go to Engage > Blocks. Click + New block to create a new one.
You can also create a new block within a specific folder by clicking + next to the folder name. Maximum block size is 3 MB. It’s not possible to add attachments to a block.
Edit a block
Note:
Only Gong technical admins and business admins (or people who can manage general business settings) can edit company blocks. These blocks are available to everyone in your org, so any changes made to them can affect everyone.
Go to Engage > Blocks. Choose the block you want to edit from the panel on the left and edit. You can change the text, apply rich text formatting, add variables and emojis, and more.
Note that variables, which populate automatically based on the recipient or account information, are different from placeholders. A placeholder can be any text between curly brackets, intended for the person using the block to replace it with the relevant information before it goes out. We'll let you know before the email gets sent if there are any missing variables or placeholders still left in the email.
You can also add in-line images to your content blocks. Simply drag and drop an image or gif into the body of your block.
Search for a block
Looking for a block that can help you handle a specific use case, like a list of frequently asked questions? Go to your blocks library and search for blocks that contain specific words using the search field in the top left corner. Search for any word in the block.
Preview a block
See how a block is going to look in an email. To do this:
Go to Engage > Blocks
Select the block you want to preview from the list on the left
At the top right of the block window, click Preview
Note:
If the block contains variables, variable data doesn't populate in preview. When you select the block while composing an email draft, variable data will populate
Track block usage
To see stats for a specific block, click the folder where the block is saved. Note that these stats do not include block usage in flows. You can see the following data for each block:
Clicked link: If a block contains 1 or more links, and at least 1 recipient clicks one of them, we count it as a clicked link.
Last modified: This shows the last time the block was saved, and who saved it.
