# Create a target column for a forecast board

Add a target column to display a predefined target on a forecast board. Target columns are read-only. You can also show a target as supporting data in a [metric column](/v1/docs/create-a-metric-column-for-a-forecast-board) or a [forecast submission column](/v1/docs/create-a-submission-column-for-a-forecast-board), but a target column shows the target independently.

## Before you begin

Create the target you want to display if it doesn't exist yet. Learn more about [creating a target](/v1/docs/create-and-manage-targets) in Data studio.

## Add a target column

Add the column from the board builder, either while you build a new board or when you edit an existing one.

**To add a target column:**

1. From the left sidebar, click **Revenue**, and select **Forecast**.
2. Open the board builder:
  - **Existing board:** Click the **More actions** ![More actions icon](https://cdn.us.document360.io/2837c190-3ec8-4120-9116-6d427e774667/Images/Documentation/MoreActions.svg?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-10-29T01%3A07%3A18Z&se=2026-10-29T02%3A07%3A18Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=fZ56u4ApPrfqGcdurV8TmqBQBwhm%2BruRcY2SJ1jUG2s%3D) icon, and select **Edit board**.
  - **New board:** Click the **More actions** ![More actions icon](https://cdn.us.document360.io/2837c190-3ec8-4120-9116-6d427e774667/Images/Documentation/MoreActions.svg?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-10-29T01%3A07%3A18Z&se=2026-10-29T02%3A07%3A18Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=fZ56u4ApPrfqGcdurV8TmqBQBwhm%2BruRcY2SJ1jUG2s%3D) icon, select **New forecast board**, and click **Add board** under **Configurable forecast board**.
3. Click **Categories** in the left panel.
4. Click the **Add category** dropdown, and select **Target**.
5. Enter a name for the column in the **Column name** field.
6. (Optional) Enter a description in the **Description** field. The description appears when team members hover over the column name.
7. Under **Target**, click the **Target** dropdown, and select the target to display in the column.
8. (Optional) Drag the column in the **Categories** list to change where it appears on the board.
9. Click **Save** to save the board.
