# What counts as feedback

This article explains what is considered feedback in Gong, which is important to understand when looking at [coaching metrics](/v1/docs/review-manager-coaching) and [Gong usage](/v1/docs/see-whos-giving-feedback).

## Feedback requests

People can request feedback on a call they attended in any of the following ways:

### Via comment

Not all comments are feedback requests.

| Action | Is this a feedback request? |
| --- | --- |
| When someone tags their direct manager on a call they attended | Yes |
| When someone tags anyone else on a call they attended | No |

### By sharing a call

Not every shared call is a feedback request.

| Action | Is this a feedback request? |
| --- | --- |
| When someone shares a call they attended internally with their direct manager | Yes |
| When someone shares a call they attended 'with customers' (external link) with their direct manager | No |
| When someone shares a call they attended internally with anyone else | No |

### By formal request

Every formal request is a feedback request.

| Action | Is this a feedback request? |
| --- | --- |
| When someone requests feedback from their direct manager for a call they attended via the call **Feedback** tab | Yes |
| When someone requests feedback from any peer for a call they attended via the call **Feedback** tab | Yes |

## Given feedback

People can give their feedback in any of the following ways:

### Via comments

The comment can be a regular comment, or in reply to another comment.

Not all comments are feedback.

| Action | Counts as feedback? |
| --- | --- |
| Commenting on a call attended by a direct report, where the direct report is the only company Gong user on the call | Yes |
| Tagging a direct report in a comment on a call, where they are the only company Gong user on the call | Yes |
| Tagging a direct report in a comment on a call that other company Gong users also attended | Only when: (1) The same direct report formally requested feedback from their direct manager on the call OR (2) The manager makes the comment private |
| Tagging multiple people in the same comment | No |
| Commenting on a call attended by a direct report where there are other company Gong users on the call | No |

### Via scorecard

Not every scorecard counts as feedback.

| Filling out a scorecard for a direct report and sharing it as public or with a specific person | Yes |
| Filling out a scorecard for one’s own performance | No |

### By marking as feedback given

This option is typically used when feedback was given offline. [Learn how](/v1/docs/mark-as-feedback-given).

Everything marked as 'feedback given' counts as feedback.

| Action | Counts as feedback? |

| Anyone marking a call as 'feedback given' for any peer on the call via the call **Feedback** tab | Yes |

Any team member can access this feature if they have the required permissions.

Access to this feature depends on your [assigned seat](/v1/docs/plans-and-seats).

A leader who oversees multiple sales managers.

A team member who manages a team of sales reps.
