# Set up inbound calls for the Gong Dialer

> **Who can use this**: Tech admin, Business admin
>
> **Available on**: Gong Foundation, Gong Engage

When a prospect or customer calls back a business number, Gong needs a forwarding number to route the call. Without one, the call can only be received in the web browser, and only if the rep is currently active in Gong.

There are two types of forwarding numbers: a company forwarding number that covers all users, and personal forwarding numbers that individual reps set for themselves. This article covers the admin-side setup. Reps can also set their own personal forwarding number from their settings.

## Set a company forwarding number

A company forwarding number is used in two situations: when a rep calls from a number that is available to all users (not assigned to them specifically), and when a rep has an assigned number but has not set a personal forwarding number.

**To set a company forwarding number:**

1. From the left sidebar, click **Admin center**.
2. In the **Settings** tab, click **Dialer setup** under **Gong Engage**.
3. In the **Phone numbers** tab, click **Set company forwarding number**.
4. Enter the number you want to use.
5. Click **Call me** to receive a verification code at that number.
6. Enter the code to verify the number.

The number is now verified and will be used to receive inbound calls on behalf of all users who have not set their own personal forwarding number.

## How inbound calls are routed

Inbound calls to a company forwarding number are routed to the last team member who dialed the prospect or customer from that number.

If a rep has an assigned number and has set a personal forwarding number, inbound calls to their assigned number are routed to them directly.

If a rep has an assigned business number, any inbound calls to that number will be routed directly to the rep

If no forwarding number is set at the company or personal level, Gong will attempt to route the call to the rep's web browser. This only works if the rep is currently active in Gong.

## Inbound calls when local dialing is used

If a rep makes a call using local dialing and the prospect calls back, Gong routes the inbound call to the last person who dialed that number from your company, based on that rep's inbound call preferences.
