## What’s a performance widget

With performance widgets, you can compare individual or team performance based on multiple [metrics and targets](/v1/docs/about-metrics-and-targets). To simplify the view and allow viewers to see whether people are on the right track at a glance, you may assign different colors to value ranges. Viewers can also toggle between team and individual views.

## Building a performance widget

> [!NOTE]
> **Note:**
>
> This procedure requires [permission](/v1/docs/revenue-analytics-permissions) to manage revenue analytics

To build a new performance widget:

1. Select your dashboard, click **+New widget** and select **Performance** from the gallery.

2. In the dashboard header, click ![](https://cdn.us.document360.io/2837c190-3ec8-4120-9116-6d427e774667/Images/Documentation/pencil_DS.png) to rename your widget and, optionally, **+ Add description**.
3. Under **Metric**, select the first metric to include in the widget. The metric values will appear in the first column of the table, for each team/individual. Viewers can sort the table by the values in each column. You can rename it by clicking ![](https://cdn.us.document360.io/2837c190-3ec8-4120-9116-6d427e774667/Images/Documentation/image(588).png)and then **Rename metric**. Click **+ New metric**to [create a new metric](/v1/docs/build-your-own-metrics), and then pull it to your Performance widget. Click ![Vector (1).svg](https://cdn.us.document360.io/2837c190-3ec8-4120-9116-6d427e774667/Images/Documentation/Vector%20(1).svg) to edit an existing metric and click **Save.**
4. Check **Measure against target** to show the attainment value (metric/target percentage value) for each team or individual, in addition to the metric value, as a secondary number.
5. Check **Assign display color to value ranges** to color code the metric’s values, and apply green, yellow, and red indications to different ranges.

> [!NOTE]
> Note:
>
> If **Measure against target** is selected, the ranges reflect the attainment value, rather than the metric’s value.
6. You may add any [filter](/v1/docs/filtering-metric-deals) (**+Add filter**) that defines which deals/accounts qualify to be included in the column. For example, deals in which Sales qualified is true and Deal stage is neither Closed-won nor Closed-lost.
7. To add a metric to the widget, click **Add metric**and repeat the above steps. You can drag and drop the metrics to reorder the table columns.
8. Below your metrics, under **Select team and period**, you’ll notice the team member and date fields are set to be dynamic and respond to whatever is selected in your dashboard. You can change them to fixed values.

> [!NOTE]
> Note:
>
> If you select fixed values for the team member and period, the widget would no longer respond to selections made on the dashboard level. The team selection will be applied to the selected metrics’ team member field, and the period selection will be applied to the selected metrics’ date field.
9. Select your **Drilldown view**: the view that opens up when viewers click to inspect the deals/accounts included in the widget.
10. Play with the **Preview** options on the right to validate your settings. When you’re happy with the results, click **Save**.

## Best practices

To get the most out of performance widgets, we recommend:

****Using color coding sensibly****

The color coding should make sense for all teams/periods if the dashboard widget is set to work with dynamic teams and periods.

Therefore, use color coding only for metrics that have a standard definition of good across different teams and periods (such as win rate, ASP, attainment) and not metrics like Bookings or Pipeline created that can vary between teams and periods.

****Using different ways to compare****

To compare two periods’ performance, you can:

- Place two performance widgets side-by-side
- Place one performance widget at the top of the dashboard and a few [KPI widgets](/v1/docs/kpi-widget), one for each metric included in the performance widget, underneath it.
